Transformers (トランスフォーマー Toransufōmā) is a famous Japanese-American media franchise created by toy companies Hasbro and TakaraTomy.
The series had several Godzilla references over the years. In 2024, a collaboration between Transformers and Godzilla was announced.
Products
Two Japan-exclusive Godzilla-themed retools of Transformers toys will be produced as part of the Synergenex line. Both are set for release in May 2025 and will retail for ¥9,350.

Optimus Prime Type MFS-3 Kiryu

Optimus Prime Type MFS-3 Kiryu (オプティマスプライム タイプ 3式機龍 Oputimasu Puraimu Taipu San-shiki Kiryū, lit. "Optimus Prime Type Type-3 Kiryu") is a redecorated Transformers: Legacy Laser Optimus Prime figure. Its robot mode is almost completely silver, except for its navy-blue shoulder cannons and arm cannon (referencing Kiryu's Back Unit and Type-0 Railguns from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla), as well as its yellow eyes and red face accents (also features of Kiryu). A Kiryu-themed collaboration logo and the text "MFS-3" are printed on its chest panels. Its truck mode consists of a blue cab pulling an army-green trailer which is made to resemble the Anti-Megalosaurus Force's ground vehicles. The collaboration logo is printed on the cab's doors, and the text "JXSDF" and "特生自衛隊" (the AMF's Japanese initialism and name, respectively) on the sides of the trailer.
The figure's accessories include the truck trailer, railgun, a yellow sword and axe, and a yellow Matrix stored under the robot mode's chest panels.

Godzilla references
- In Transformers there are numerous references to Godzilla:
- In the Generation 1 episode "Kreemzeek", a poster of a Godzilla-like monster named Hojoni can be seen.
- Trypticon is based on Godzilla and/or Mechagodzilla.
- Trypticon was called Mechagodzilla in IDW’s Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #5 ("Everyone Hates Metroplex") by G.I. Joe character Tunnel Rat.
- Trypticon used Baragon's Showa Roar in Transformers: Scramble City.
- The defunct mobile game Transformers: Legends feature A Super Rare artwork card has Trypticon striking a pose that resembles the one Godzilla assumes on the advance poster by Noriyoshi Ohrai for Godzilla Final Wars.
- In Transformers Super-God Masterforce Javil resembles Gigan, with a beak, mandibles, a long tongue, and hooks for hands.
- Transformers Super-God Masterforce head writer Masumi Kaneda has stated that God Ginrai was named to leave lit other Japanese syllable that means the word Gojira.
- Transformers Robotmasters episode Lio Convoy has Beast Wars Megatron (Called Beast Megatron) rampage in a similar manner to Godzilla firing a purple laser beam from his mouth as he rampage in Tokyo akin to Godzilla setting Tokyo ablaze. Optimus Primal also climbed the Tokyo tower similar to King King and Mechani-Kong did in King Kong Escapes to attack Starscream and Wingstun in their jet modes.
- In Transformers: Rising Storm #3 Jolt guards Fearswoop, he keeps himself busy by reading the first issue of IDW Publishing's Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters, specifically a copy with Matt Frank's retailer exclusive blank cover.
- In Transformers Timelines #11 Dalung Master has an alternate mode that heavily resembles Godzilla.
- In the Marvel Transformers (Marvel UK) story #287 "Inside Story!" Irwin Spoon compared Superion to Godzilla or King Kong to Autobot Prowl.
- Marvel Comics' Transformers #3 mentions Godzilla, when Nick Fury tells Dum Dum "if that big green, fire-snortin' lizard is loose again, I quit!". It was meant to have Transformers integrated as part of the Marvel-616 universe, before being retconned into its own universe, (Earth-91274, or Earth-120185 for the Marvel UK version). This implies the events of Marvel's Godzilla comics is canon to both universes.
- The Transformers: Rescue Bots episode The Attack of Humungado references Godzilla movies with the titular monster being based on Godzilla and show toys of similar to Godzilla and Biollante. The Manta Ray Kaiju Rayvenous is also similar to the Sub-Zero Manta from Godzilla: The Series being manta ray kaiju that fly and fire ice beams from their mouths.
- A monster similar to Biollante is shown attacking Optimus Prime and Vector Prime in the Transformers: Cybertron episode "Savage".
- In Transformers: Prime Operation Breakdown Bulkhead and Miko watch a fictional film Dinolizard and 5-headed ape which is based on Godzilla and King Kong. The former uses the TriStar Godzilla's roar.
- In the Transformers Robots in Disguise (2015) episode "The Champ", Grimlock uses Godzilla's dropkick move from Godzilla vs. Megalon on Groundpounder.
- The Transformers Energon Autobot Signal Flare has an altmode similar to a Maser Cannon, and the Decepticon Terrorcon Cruellock has an alt mode similar to the TriStar Godzilla/Zilla.
- The "Transformers Go! Go!" Manga #15 The Big Operation to Help Santa! has Grimlock use his fire breath to fly into the air, similar to what Godzilla did in Godzilla vs. Hedorah.
- The Transformers writer Simmon Furman would later write the Monsterverse Return to Skull Island comic.
- Torema's guns are portrayed with G1 Megatron and G1 Shockwave figures in their gunmodes.
