Brush of the God (カミノフデ ～怪獣たちのいる島～ Kami no Fude: Kaijū-tachi no Iru Shima, lit. "Brush of the God: An Island with Monsters") is a 2024 tokusatsu kaiju film directed by Keizo Murase in his directorial debut and written by Takeshi Nakazawa from a story by Murase, with special effects by Daisuke Sato. Financed through the Brush of the God Production Committee and produced by Murase's company Twenty, the film was crowdfunded through Motion Gallery and Kickstarter beginning in September 2020.[2] It made its world premiere at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Osaka, Japan on March 2, 2024.[1] A wider Japanese theatrical release will follow in the summer, with plans to also release the film overseas sometime in the future.[3][4]

Special effects modelmaker Kenzo Tokimiya has passed away. Akari, who did not have good memories of her grandfather's work, visits a farewell party for his fans with mixed feelings. There, she meets her classmate Takuya, a hardcore tokusatsu fan.
Akari and Takuya meet a young man named Hozumi, who was going to be in the movie Brush of the God that Kenzo was going to make. This comes as a surprise to Akari, since this is the first she has heard that her grandfather was involved in such a production. Hozumi picks up a brush, a prop from the Brush of the God exhibit, and draws a circle in the air. "Please save his world!" With Hozumi's words, Akari and Takuya are swallowed by the wormhole that suddenly appears. The next thing they know, they have entered the world of the movie Brush of the God, greeted by the terrible visage of the kaiju Yamata no Orochi, which is not supposed to be in the movie, trying to burn everything in this world. Filming began on the tokusatsu footage for Brush of the God on February 27, 2022.[12] The production then switched focus to the drama scenes, wrapping this part of the film on July 10, 2022.[13] Delays in the modeling process prevented filming of the tokusatsu scenes from resuming until the fall.[14] Two more rounds of filming were planned for 2023.[14] On January 13, 2023, a second Motion Gallery campaign was launched, seeking ¥2 million primarily to facilitate an outdoor climax with large-scale explosions.[8]
