Godzilla (ゴジラ,   Gojira) is a kaiju that appears in IDW Publishing's 2024 comic book miniseries Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre.

Name

Godzilla was originally called both a "Giant Prehistoric Fire-Breathing Lizzard" and a "Heavily Armored Sea Creature" by Jay Gatsby. He was finally referred to by name in Issue #2 by the Time Machinist.

Design

Godzilla's design in the series bears a physique reminiscent of that of Marvel's Godzilla. His skin texture is occasionally reminiscent of that of the Showa Godzilla. Godzilla's dorsal fins are very thin and simplistic in design like those of the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla, though they still possess the traditional maple-leaf shape. Godzilla's claws and teeth are elongated and he possesses visible pointed ears. His hide is a dark hue of green and has a fish scale-like texture in close-ups. Godzilla's dorsal fins go from the top of his head like the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla to a singular row that extends along most of his tail and they are light gray in color. His arms are inconsistently depicted as stubby in some instances and elongated in others. Most prominently, Godzilla's face is inconsistent in shape and is peculiarly deformed in adherence to the series' art style.

Godzilla's atomic breath is depicted as the traditional blue, though it is also depicted as red in one instance and white in another.

Personality

Godzilla possessed simple animalistic behavior where he ignored the humans at first, but retaliated when attacked. He also seemed to grab things just to either throw them or bite into them.

He also showed some intelligence when he tried to locate the Nautilus.

Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre #1

Godzilla attacks a party at West Egg in Long Island, New York, where Jay Gatsby attempts to rescue Daisy Buchanan and others, only for their boat to be sunk by Godzilla's tail.

Godzilla then attacks New York City, where he is driven back into the sea by G-Force. Godzilla then attacks and sinks the RMS Carpathia before heading off to London, where Sherlock Holmes finds one of Godzilla's footprints in Ipswich. Once Godzilla arrives, he begins his assault on the city, cleaving Big Ben in two with his atomic breath and burning down Buckingham Palace before being attacked by planes.
