Ray Harryhausen was an American stop-motion animator and producer. The chief protégé of Willis O'Brien, the animator of The Lost World and King Kong, Harryhausen made his feature film debut as the "first technician" of Mighty Joe Young in 1949. From there, he built a reputation as one of the country's best special effects artists, bringing to life prehistoric, mythological, and science-fiction monsters. His final film was 1981's Clash of the Titans.
