Takashi Yamazaki (山崎 貴 is a Yamazaki Takashi)Japanese filmmaker. Inspired to enter the movie business after seeing 1972's Encounter with the Unknown and 1977's Star Wars at the age of 13,[1] Yamazaki began his career in the late 1980s working for Shirogumi's special effects department. His earliest jobs included Juzo Itami's A Taxing Woman's Return in 1988 and Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Sweet Home in 1989. He made his directorial debut on ROBOT's 2000 science fiction film Juvenile. His third film, Always: Sunset on Third Street (2005), won the Japanese Academy Award for Best Picture, and was followed by two sequels. The first of them, released in 2007, featured Godzilla in an imaginary sequence. In 2021, Yamazaki directed the short film Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle for a motion simulator ride at the Seibuen amusement park in Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan. He is also the director and screenwriter of the 2022 fantasy film yokaipedia and will direct Toho's next live-action Godzilla film, due for release in 2023.[2]
Yamazaki is married to fellow director Shimako Sato, who he had previously worked with on her 2008 film K-20: Legend of the Mask.
