Hifukibaba (火吹き婆) is a yokai created by Kadokawa that first appeared in the 1968 tokusatsu yokai film, Yokai Monsters: One Hundred Monsters.

Design

The Hifukibaba resembles a woman with a long nose, white shaggy hair, and a white kimono.

History

Showa era

Yokai Monsters: One Hundred Monsters

The Hifukibaba is seen among the many yokai watching the criminals in the woods. Later on, it joins in tormenting the criminals after insulting the dead spirit of a mother protecting her child. At the film's finale, the Hifukibaba is seen frolicking with the other yokai back into the woods.

Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare

The Hifukibaba, while not in the main group of yokai, was one of the many to rush to their aid when Daimon cloned himself. Leaping onto one of the clones, it was seen pummeling the Babalonian demon.

Yokai Monsters: Along with Ghosts

A Hifukibaba was among the main fighters in the grand finale, and is seen dancing out after vanquishing the antagonist.

Great Yokai War

A Hifukibaba was among the counsel of yokai summoned to discuss the danger of the new threat in Japan, turning yokai into machines. Originally, it along with the other yokai, disagree to help, but later, when every Yokai in Japan converge on the enemy's base of operations, the Hifukibaba was among the crowd, even seen crowd surfing at one point as the many yokai believed it was a party.

Trivia

  • Hifukibaba is intended as a parody of the Japanese folklore creature Fukikeshibaba. While Fukikeshibaba was known to blow out fires and lanterns, Hifukibaba instead breathes fire.
