Super Special SpaceGodzilla High Grade Type 2 (スーパースペシャルスペースゴジラハイグレードタイプ2,   Sūpā Supesharu Supēsugojira Hai Gurēdo Taipu Tsū) is a space kaiju created by Toho that first appeared in the 1997 Godzilla series, Godzilla Island.

Name

Super Special SpaceGodzilla High Grade Type 2's name is naturally derived from that of SpaceGodzilla's but combined with various words and terms which show his status as a superior or successor to SpaceGodzilla. "High Grade", notably, is also a name used for a line of Bandai gashapon figures which has released Godzilla sets since 1994.

Design

Naturally, Super Special SpaceGodzilla High Grade Type 2 strongly resembles SpaceGodzilla, but with a different coloration: he has golden shoulder crystals and white-and-light-blue dorsal fins.

Personality

Super Special SpaceGodzilla High Grade Type 2 is an evil pawn of the Giant Dark Emperor, the leader of the Xiliens. He shows extreme hostility to Godzilla, like many of the other Xilien pawns in the series, but also seems somewhat eager to retreat once he suffers injuries, being dismissed by Randeth as a "cowardly monster".

Origins

It is ambiguous whether Super Special SpaceGodzilla High Grade Type 2 is the first SpaceGodzilla in a new physical body or a separate being, though the description of him as "the real SpaceGodzilla" implies the former explanation.

History

Godzilla Island

SpaceGodzilla's Spirit Again

After G-Guard was able to thwart a Xilien plot involving a fog machine projecting an image of SpaceGodzilla and poisoned water from Gabara Pond, Super Special SpaceGodzilla High Grade Type 2 suddenly appeared after Nao Koda insisted that what she had seen wasn't the projection used by the Xiliens. Super Special SpaceGodzilla attempted to attack the G-Guard base but was intercepted by Godzilla and the two began to wrestle though Godzilla was overpowered and thrown to the ground. Super Special SpaceGodzilla then attacked Godzilla with his corona beam and stepped on his head in attempts to kill him before Misato Jinguji intervened using Fire Fighter Jet Jaguar, spreading an extinguishing agent which projected a hologram of a colossal Godzilla which distracted Super Special SpaceGodzilla. Godzilla took advantage of the distraction and knocked one of Super Special SpaceGodzilla's shoulder crystals off using a tail-whip and then blasted the wound with atomic breath. Super Special SpaceGodzilla retreated back to outer space, never to be seen again.

Abilities

Corona Beam

Super Special SpaceGodzilla is able to fire a red Corona Beam. It is powerful enough to elicit roars of pain from Godzilla.

Physical abilities

Super Special SpaceGodzilla proved himself Godzilla's superior in physical combat, throwing him to the ground after briefly wrestling with him and then stepping on and kicking his head.

Flight

Super Special SpaceGodzilla was capable of flight, using this ability to arrive on the island and later retreat from the battle with Godzilla.

Weaknesses

After being distracted by an illusion of a colossal Godzilla, Super Special SpaceGodzilla had his left shoulder crystal destroyed by Godzilla. A subsequent blast of atomic breath led him to retreat to outer space.
