Rodan (Get Going! Godzilland)

Rodan (ラドン Radon) is a juvenile monster who appears in Gakken's 1994-1996 educational Get Going! Godzilland original video animations (OVAs). Rodan was one of the inhabitants of Godzilland and often learnt helpful lessons from Mothra.
Name

Rodan's Japanese name, Radon, is a truncation of "Pteranodon." It may also have been chosen to suggest radiation. The name was changed to "Rodan" in English-speaking markets in order to avoid confusion with the element radon.
Design
Rodan's design in the OVAs is loosely based upon his Showa incarnation, albeit heavily simplified with a super-deformed or "chibi" style. Resembling a bipedal pterosaur, he sports two large wings with claws on each and two spikes on the back of his head. He is primarily reddish-brown in color with a yellow beak and white claws on his wings and feet alongside white spikes on his chest.
Personality
Rodan is shown to be quite greedy and gluttonous as he deliberately arrives at Mothra's picnic first so he can tuck into her strawberries; he also steals food from a monkey, a polar bear, Anguirus, and Godzilla as well as eating watermelon in the hiragana lessons. However, he is also loyal to Godzilla and immediately alerted him when Gojirin was in trouble; he was also quick to forgive Mechagodzilla for his past misdeeds.

Rodan is a resident of Godzilland alongside various other juvenile kaiju.

"You Can Read! You Can Write! Hiragana"
Rodan received a letter from Mothra inviting him to come to a picnic to try some strawberries she'd grown. He promptly raced over to try to get there first, successfully doing so. Rodan immediately began to eat the strawberries present while King Ghidorah arrived and began to do the same despite his initial annoyance at Rodan's rudeness. Mothra then arrived and asked King Ghidorah if he'd seen either Godzilla or Anguirus on his way to the picnic, though none of his heads had. While Mothra wondered why Godzilla or Anguirus hadn't arrived yet, Rodan continued to tuck into the strawberries present. Godzilla and Anguirus then accidently stumbled onto the picnic while arguing, and though their argument was broken up by Mothra, they then complained when they learnt that the others had already eaten all of the strawberries. They confessed that they couldn't read after Baragon and King Ghidorah enquired into the situation and Rodan helped them learn hiragana alongside the other monsters who could read.
The first set of lessons showed Rodan eating rice balls at a picnic on a hill in a picture book along with Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Baragon. Rodan then helped them learn (sa), (shi), (su), (se), and (so), with the lessons showing him stealing a rice ball from a monkey, stealing a fish from a polar bear, eating a watermelon, stealing a rice cracker from Anguirus, stealing noodles off Godzilla before crashing, and engaging in a tug-of-war. Godzilla later won a flight on Rodan to the very island he lived on as a result of getting questions right. The next set of lessons showed Rodan laughing at a sheep with three sets of braids. Rodan then introduced (ra), (ri), (ru), (re), and (ro), commenting on both a squirrel with a lunchbox full of lemons riding a camel and a crane, and getting assistance from a donkey after the camel passed out. Rodan then danced in a circle with all the other monsters and briefly took part in the dots song.
Rodan later took part in a game of shiritori with the other monsters and laughed at Godzilla when he lost.
"You Can Count! Counting 1-2-3!"
While relaxing in the air, Rodan smelt the cakes Anguirus had baked for Godzilla's birthday party and flew down to demand one. Anguirus refused on the basis that the party hadn't started yet and stated that the cakes would only be served once everyone had arrived. Rodan helped prepare the party and sat next to Godzilla when everyone had arrived. After receiving the last cake, Rodan watched as Anguirus realized he had miscounted and had not given one to Godzilla while King Ghidorah's heads fought over the cake that had been provided, though Mothra was able to resolve both issues by providing extra cakes. After everyone had eaten their cakes, Godzilla asked Mothra to teach them count properly.
Rodan watched as Godzilla jumped on ten red boxes provided by Mothra to form a tower so that he could learn to count to ten, with King Ghidorah helping throw boxes to Mothra so she could throw them to Godzilla. Rodan then ran in terror when Godzilla started knocking the boxes down so that he could learn how to count down. Later, Rodan was one of the monsters ordered into a line by King Ghidorah, who then asked a series of questions about the positioning of the monsters. Rodan then boarded a numbered train with the other monsters, sitting in the fourth carriage, as Mothra asked a series of questions about numbers. Rodan and Baragon later counted windmills together, with Rodan helping to move the blades of the windmills with gusts of wind from his wings as Baragon compared the numbers of spinning and stationary windmills. Rodan briefly tired out but got back up and flapped his wings even harder, managing to blow the windmills away entirely.
"Let's Play with Godzilla! Addition"
While learning addition, Rodan aided the juvenile kaiju of Godzilland by turning into a plus sign when they needed to add numbers.
"Let's Play with Godzilla! Subtraction"
Rodan attended Gojirin's birthday party alongside several other kaiju. Later, while flying above Godzilland, Rodan witnessed Mechagodzilla attempting to kidnap Gojirin and immediately alerted Godzilla and Anguirus. After Gojirin was saved, Rodan joined the other monsters in a song about subtraction before playing jump-rope. Shortly thereafter, the group was interrupted by the arrival of Mechagodzilla and Mothra. At Mothra's urging, Mechagodzilla apologized for his previous actions and was subsequently invited to play with the others.
Abilities
Flight
Naturally, Rodan is capable of flight and seems to be the fastest flier on Godzilland, arriving at Mothra's picnic first.
Physical capabilities
Rodan is strong enough to lift and carry monsters of similar size to him, such as Godzilla.
Wind gusts
Similar to other Rodan incarnations, this Rodan is capable of deliberately flapping his wings to create winds and uses this ability to move the blades of windmills. Though he tired out after doing this for a sustained period of time, he was able to revive and blow away the windmills all together.
Shapeshifting
Rodan demonstrates the unusual ability to turn into a plus sign when he needs to help the other monsters learn addition.
