Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ is a mecha that appears in the Marvel Comics series Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe. Constructed by King T'Challa following Godzilla's destruction of the Baxter Building and the supposed death of the Fantastic Four and Captain America, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ was designed to combat Godzilla with the combined abilities of a multitude of superheroes.
Name
Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ seems to be made up of a variety of terms often used throughout the Marvel universe. "Mecha" comes from a shortened version of "mechanical," describing the mechanical nature of the creation. "Adaptoid" is used in the Marvel universe to describe robots that can adapt to abilities of those around them, most notably seen in the Super-Adaptoid. This reflects the mecha being built around the concept of having multiple heroes pilot and channel their abilities through it. "Centurion" is used often to describe characters that take design aspects from real-world Roman centurions. The "Ⓐ" at the end of the mecha's name implies it is the first of its kind, while also being stylized to look like the Avengers logo.
Design
The mech has an overall slim build, with rectangular shoulders, and a red, purple, black, and silver color scheme with yellow accents. As implied by the name, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ takes some inspiration from centurions, high ranking soldiers in the Roman army. The plated, segmented look of the armor and the shape of the helmet most reflect this design inspiration. The mech also contains design aspects of the Marvel heroes that help pilot it, including a red visor reminiscent of Cyclops, a circular, Arc Reactor-esque energy core on its chest akin to Iron Man, and red lower arms that fire restraining cables, not unlike Spider-Man.
Origins
Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ was created in haste by Black Panther following Godzilla's abrupt attack on New York City. After discovering that Godzilla had awakened because of a vibranium alloy that Mole Man's people had forged on his behalf, the Wakandan king had his sister, Shuri, synthesize as much of the alloy as possible, which would then eventually be incorporated into the mech's hull as a means to weaken Godzilla during combat.
History
- Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2–5 (2025) [indirect mention in #2]
Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe
Issue #2
After the vibranium staff that had once belonged to Mole Man fell into the hands of Black Panther, he quickly got to work on an important project, giving his sister, Shuri, the task of synthesizing as much of the metal as possible to cover the project's hull.
Issue #3
As the X-Men continued their efforts to bring Godzilla's rampage to a halt in Madripoor, Black Panther was hard at work in Wakanda rushing to complete an important project. Amidst the construction of the machine, T'Challa met with Shuri, who was hesitant to bring Bruce Banner to Wakanda to hold Godzilla off until the mecha was complete.
Issue #4

With little time to spare now that Godzilla was rapidly approaching Wakanda, the Avengers, X-Men, and other remaining heroes converged at Black Panther's base of operations, where he unveiled his Godzilla countermeasure, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ. Those who saw it were left awestruck, with Cyclops wondering who would pilot it, to which T'Challa said that everyone will.
Following Godzilla's battle against the Giant-Size Hulk, Namor, and Ebirah, the King of the Monsters was then ambushed by the mecha, striking him in the face with a kick and an optic blast from Cyclops. The combined might of Black Panther, Cyclops, Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Strange, War Machine, Magik, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, the Human Torch, Storm, Quicksilver, and Northstar within the mech would have to be enough to bring Godzilla's rampage to an end.
Issue #5
As the assembled heroes pressed on in their struggle against Godzilla, the mech's right gauntlet received a bite from the monster king, inflicting enough damage to force Iron Man and War Machine out to shake him off. They fired their suits' weapons at Godzilla's eyes, leaving him vulnerable to restraining cables fired by the two Spider-Men in the mech's forearms. With Godzilla open to attack, Doctor Strange opens a set of portals, allowing the heroes inside to unleash their attacks at once, with Cyclops's optic blasts, Thor's lightning, an enraged Human Torch's flames, and even Strange himself using the Winds of Watoomb contributing to the onslaught. Amidst it all, Shuri charged the restraints with the energy signature derived from the vibranium alloy, weakening Godzilla further. With the aid of Ant-Man's Pym Particles, Magik's Soulsword was enlarged, now being wielded by the mech itself. The Soulsword was then used to block a blast of Godzilla's atomic breath, before being stabbed through the monster's chest, knocking him to the ground.
With the sudden reappearance of the Fantastic Four and Captain America after having seemingly disappeared with the Baxter Building's destruction, the latter hero acted fast now that Godzilla was healing from his injury, throwing his shield to Ant-Man, who then quickly scaled it up with Pym Particles. After the shield successfully blocked another blast of atomic breath, Black Panther urged everyone to evacuate from the mecha, knowing that the situation had reached a fever pitch, leaving him no choice but to use his machine's built in trump card. The mech suddenly transformed, all of its parts unbinding from each other and forming around Godzilla to create manacles for the kaiju's whole body. Knowing they could only hold Godzilla for so long, the heroes acted quickly, working together to send Godzilla careening off-world with the aid of Thor's hammer, Doctor Strange's Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, and Magik's teleportation, eventually sending him to a distant planet, the restraints being destroyed by the landing impact.
Abilities
Physical abilities
While primarily reliant on its weapons, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ still demonstrates physical strength on its own. Upon ambushing Godzilla, it delivered a kick to his face with enough power to make him stagger.
Durability
The hull of the mech is made of an unstable vibranium alloy synthesized from the staff of Mole Man, giving the mech a resilient exterior not unlike Captain America's shield or Black Panther's suit. The alloy was also incorporated due to Godzilla's apparent vulnerability to it and the energy it emits.
Optic blast
Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ was constructed with a massive visor composed of ruby quartz, allowing Cyclops to release his optic blasts at a much greater scale.
Restraining cables
Contained within the forearms, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ can release metal cables that act as restraints for Godzilla, functioning similar to Spider-Man's webbing. These cables can also be charged with energy taken from vibranium.
Portals
With Doctor Strange inside, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ has access to portals to send attacks from any other heroes within the mecha out to Godzilla, such as Thor's lightning, the Human Torch's flames, and Strange's own Winds of Watoomb.
Pym Particles
With the aid of their inventor, Ant-Man, the mech can use weapons that have been vastly increased in size with the use of Pym Particles, including Magik's Soulsword and Captain America's shield.
Transformation
As a last resort, Mecha Adaptoid Centurion Mark-Ⓐ can transform into a series of restraints for Godzilla's entire body, which are designed to temporarily immobilize him so that he can be sent off-world.
Weaknesses
Despite the outer shell being made primarily from vibranium, the mech still wasn't entirely immune to Godzilla's strength. A bite from the kaiju crumpled the right arm's gauntlet, forcing Iron Man and War Machine to hastily exit the mecha and shake him off before more damage could be inflicted. Godzilla had also managed to rip the mech's left arm from its body as the heroes began to escape.
