Super Jikiro (スーパージキロ,   Sūpā Jikiro) is a magnetic mecha that first appeared in episode 22 of the 1973 Toho tokusatsu kaiju series Zone Fighter, titled "Counterattack! Defeat Super Jikiro".

Design

Super Jikiro looks mostly the same as the original Jikiro, except for a few small differences. The large, red, screw-like protrusion from his back is replaced by a curved spine, the spikes coming from his left arm's claw are now colored red, and the four cannon barrels which serve as his right arm's fingers are removed, leaving only holes.

Origins

Months after the original Jikiro's defeat and subsequent destruction, the Garoga scientist division rebuilt the mecha with numerous upgrades, including the new Anti-Missile Might ability. The head facilitator of the scientist division described Super Jikiro as having a magnetic force 100 times stronger than the original, capable of attracting 500,000 metric tons of metal.

Abilities

Physical abilities

After pulling in a nearby ship, Super Jikiro sank it with repeated strikes from his left hand, with explosions occurring with each hit. During his first battle with Zone Fighter, Super Jikiro grappled with the hero, and proceeded to hit him with an overhead strike with his left hand, knocking him backwards into the water. During their rematch, Super Jikiro grappled with Zone Fighter again, briefly lifting him up while doing so, and battered the hero with his hands, before throwing Zone into the water. When Zone Fighter jumped out of the water to tackle Super Jikiro, the mecha overpowered the hero by slamming his hands into the hero, consistently knocking Zone backwards, before tackling him to the bottom of the ocean. When Zone Fighter attempted to swim back to the surface, Super Jikiro jumped and grabbed onto Zone's legs, dragging him back down and eventually slamming him onto the ocean floor. After this, Super Jikiro proceeded to slam his foot right on Zone Fighter's chest. Super Jikiro caught Zone Fighter's foot in the middle of one of his Meteor Kicks, before throwing him to the ground. When the hero got up again, Super Jikiro rammed into Zone and hit him with an overhand and underhand strike from both hands, then flipped him over while continuing his assault. While Zone Fighter was on the ground, Super Jikiro jumped up and down on the hero's chest repeatedly.

Amphibiousness

Despite being a mechanical entity, Super Jikiro first appears emerging out of the ocean. Super Jikiro also fought Zone Fighter in the ocean during both of their fights, popping back up out of the water after being tackled and completely submerged during the first bout. After tackling Zone Fighter, Super Jikiro fought the hero at the bottom of the ocean.

Magnetism

Super Jikiro has extremely strong magnets in his body, specified by a Garoga scientist in "Counterattack! Defeat Super Jikiro" to be 100 times as strong as the original Jikiro's. The Garoga scientist also explained that Super Jikiro could easily attract up to 500,000 metric tons of metal. Just like Jikiro, Super Jikiro makes circular motions with his right hand while magnetizing things, with his left hand also flashing. Super Jikiro's magnetism made all of the compasses and clocks within Tokyo go haywire, with the compasses in particular all pointing towards him. His magnetism also pulled in a ship while disabling its rudder.

Anti-Missile Might

Super Jikiro's left hand allows him to absorb Zone Fighter's missiles from the Meteor Missile Might attack without them exploding, and then firing them from in his opposite hand for an attack called the Anti-Missile Might (対ミサイル能力). Super Jikiro used this during his first fight with the hero, causing Zone great pain and knocking backwards into the water. The battered hero was forced to retreat, and ultimately left bedridden in a hospital with a burned body, broken arms and legs, and major blood loss, although he was able to recover eventually.

Magnetic Ray Gun

Super Jikiro's right hand has a four-pronged Gatling gun attached to it. The upgraded barrels are shortened and capable of firing rapid shots, as well as returning Zone Fighter's Meteor Missile Might back at him. During his first fight with Zone Fighter, each shot of Super Jikiro's Magnetic Ray Gun caused plumes of water to shoot up, resulting in Zone Fighter having to duck underwater.

Magnetic Ray

Although Super Jikiro never used this weapon during his appearance, according to All Kaiju Kaijin (First Volume), he is able to use the original's Magnetic Ray (磁気光線 Jiki Kosen), which is 10 times more powerful than the original.

Radioactivity

While Hikaru and Hotaru were searching for pieces of Super Jikiro in order to analyze his new abilities, a Geiger counter was shown spiking when near a piece of the mecha's armored plating.

Durability

Super Jikiro's armor was shown to be quite tough, as when a nearby ship he was pulling in with his magnetism ended up hitting him in the chest, it only caused damage to the ship itself, with an explosion going off onboard the watercraft. When Zone Fighter jumped in the air and tackled Super Jikiro down into the water, the mecha was unfazed and popped back out right behind the hero. When emerging a second time, Super Jikiro was briefly stunned by a beam from Mighty Liner. During their rematch, Super Jikiro showed no reaction to being hit with a Meteor Punch and withstood a multitude of blows from the hero. When the both of them were fighting at the bottom of the ocean, Super Jikiro fell over after being hit with a Meteor Kick and was dazed by a Meteor Punch to the face. Super Jikiro endured being thrown around and into the ground multiple times by Zone Fighter. Part of Super Jikiro's left hand was blown up after being hit with Zone Fighter's Meteor Double Anti-Missile Might, which replicated Super Jikiro's own Anti-Missile Might, absorbing the missiles sent back by Super Jikiro, before returning them to the mecha. Super Jikiro was finally killed by a second volley of the Meteor Double Anti-Missile Might.
