Drownviper
|
The Drownviper (ドラウンヴァイパー is an eel-like Doraunvaipā)monster that inhabited a lake deep in the Hollow Earth in the 2024 Legendary Pictures film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Design
The Drownviper has a serpentine, navy blue body with yellow stripes along its sides and a white underbelly. It also sports spiked fins on the top of its head, while smaller spikes go down the length of its body. The Drownviper also has a shark-like head, with sharp, needle-like teeth. The Drownviper also has teeth protruding out of its tongue. When torn open the Drownviper's flesh is shown to be red, and its blood green and gelatinous. Its eyeballs are completely yellow with black slit pupils.
Behavior
The Drownviper is very territorial, attacking Kong almost immediately after he and Suko entered its lake. Stealthy despite its size, it swam behind Kong before quietly surfacing.
History
Monsterverse
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
When Kong and Suko ventured to a lake, Suko splashed water to attract the Drownviper, whom attacked Kong in the lake. Kong then used his axe to try and stop the creature from hitting him, but the Drownviper constricted Kong, dragging him underwater. Suko took the opportunity to flee, but Kong's axe flew out in front of him and tripped him. When Suko got back up, the head of the Drownviper fell right next to him. Kong emerged, dragging the Drownviper's beheaded corpse with him, and Suko hesitantly stood up, looking up at Kong with fear. Later on, Kong and Suko ate parts of the Drownviper.
Abilities
Amphibiousness
As an aquatic animal, the Drownviper is a natural swimmer and is incredibly nimble in the water. Like a large snake, it can partially stand above water to lunge at prey, as it did to Kong.
Speed
During its battle with Kong, the Drownviper swiftly dodged his attacks and constricted the Titan instantaneously.
Stealth
The Drownviper swam up to Kong from behind before lunging at him. Suko noticed its approach through churning water, while Kong failed to detect the creature until he noticed Suko looking in his direction and sensed the predator behind him.
Constriction
As the name suggests, the Drownviper is capable of wrapping around its enemies or prey to squeeze them before asphyxiating them. After it constricted Kong, it dragged him underwater in an attempt to drown him.
Weaknesses
The Drownviper was eventually overpowered by Kong, who decapitated it with his axe.
