The Giant Octopus is a cephalopod monster that appeared in episode 16 of the 1979 Hanna-Barbera animated series Godzilla, titled "Ghost Ship."
Design
The Giant Octopus resembles an ordinary octopus. Its color varies from scene to scene, ranging from black to dark green to blue. It has a rounded mantle, large yellow eyes, and eight tentacles. The tops of the tentacles are the same color as the rest of its body; the bottom, beige halves bear suckers.
History

Godzilla
"Ghost Ship"
The Giant Octopus emerged from a deep-sea cave, awoken by the explosion of a misfired torpedo from a German U-boat, U-79, which Godzilla was carrying away. It quickly surfaced and attacked U-79, unfazed by the Calico's attempts to stop it. Fortunately, Godzilla recovered from the explosion and shot his laser eyes at it. The Giant Octopus attempted to flee with the vessel, but Godzilla caught up to it and liberated the U-boat before continuing the fight. The Giant Octopus incapacitated Godzilla with an ink cloud and dragged him down to the deep, brushing aside Godzooky's attempts to free his relative. This enraged Godzilla, who tied the Giant Octopus' tentacles in a knot before sealing it back in its cave.
Abilities
Tentacles
The Giant Octopus used its massive tentacles to grip and restrain U-79 and bat away the Calico and Godzooky. It also grappled with Godziilla.
Ink
The Giant Octopus was able to discharge a noxious ink from its underside, which was potent enough to incapacitate Godzilla.
Durability
The Giant Octopus withstood being directly rammed in its mantle by the Calico, as well as multiple blasts from Godzilla's laser eyes.
