Jellar
|
Jellar (ジュラー is an alien mollusk Jurā)kaiju created by Toho who first appeared in episode 21 of Zone Fighter, "Invincible! Godzilla Enraged."
Name
Jellar's name is most likely derived from the planet he originates from, that being Planet Jellarl.
Design
In his initial form, Jellar was a teal-ish slug-like creature, with multiple pseudopods that allowed him to crawl around. The pseudopods themselves were arranged in a starfish-like shape. Jellar also periodically glowed in this form.
Origins
Jellar began life as an alien organism from Planet Jellarl (ジュラール星. The Garoga soon found their way to Planet Jellarl, where they found Jellar in his initial state. Afterwards, the Garoga brainwashed Jellar and put him within a freezing capsule, to allow them to carry the mollusk around. Because of the difference in oxygen concentration between Jurāru Sei)Earth and Jellarl, he rapidly grew 50 times his size upon coming into contact with Earth's atmosphere.[1]

Zone Fighter
"Invincible! Godzilla Enraged"
Onboard the Garogan Space Station, White Garoga presents Baron Garoga with a gift: a tiny creature from Planet Jellarl named Jellar. He insists that Jellar is impervious to Zone Fighter's Proton Beam. The creature is loaded into a Terror-Beast Missile and launched towards Earth.
Hikaru and Hotaru spot the missile flying above, and track it down. However, when they get there, they find two Garogas defending the capsule. After a short fight, the Garogas are repelled, and Hikaru and Hotaru gain control of the capsule. The Garogas return, and state that they will release Akira, who they are holding hostage, in exchange for the capsule. The Zone Family agrees to this exchange, but a scuffle breaks out between the Peacelandians and the Garogas. During the fight, the capsule is broken, releasing Jellar. Hikaru transforms into Zone Fighter, but quickly gets beaten down, and true to form, Jellar is resistant against Zone's Proton Beam. Godzilla is called into battle, and helps Zone Fighter back up. He then runs towards Jellar, and rips one of his tentacles off. This tentacle grows into a new monster, Custom Jellar. The two heroes, now evenly matched, fight bravely on, and Zone Fighter receives extra energy from Smokey, which is being piloted by Zone Angel and Zone Junior. Jellar and Custom Jellar were destroyed by a combination of Godzilla's atomic breath and Zone Fighter's Meteor Missile Might hit their bodies. As their bodies spat out fluids and began to melt together, the ground beneath them deformed before the fluids themselves evaporated.
Abilities
Bioluminescence
When he was in his initial form, Jellar occasionally glowed, with the light emitted blinking in and out.
Physical abilities
Upon Zone Fighter's giant transformation, Jellar immediately charged headfirst at the hero, although he missed when Zone jumped to the side. When Zone's Meteor Proton Beam failed to injure Jellar, the alien mollusk tackled the hero to the ground. When Zone Fighter was weakened, Jellar used his tentacles to slam Zone into the ground while also kicking and stomping on the fallen hero. After this, Jellar picked up the downed hero, restraining and choking him with his tentacles, only stopping when Godzilla came to intervene. Jellar attempted to rush down the reptilian but failed to inflict any harm on him. Custom Jellar later slammed his body into Godzilla as he charged the reptilian.
Flight
Jellar is capable of flight by launching himself like a missile off the ground, although he utilized it for attacking rather than for travel. After tackling Zone Fighter to the ground, Jellar used his flight to ram him repeatedly.
Acidic mist
Jellar can expel a green acidic mist from the tips of his tentacles. He first used this mist on a human-sized Zone Fighter, interrupting the hero before he could transform into a giant. When expelling the mist from his tentacles, he straightens out one of them, before raising another tentacle up and laying it on top of the extended one. When the mist made contact with Godzilla and Zone Fighter, it caused several explosions across their bodies. The mist itself briefly stunned Zone Fighter as the explosions rippled across the hero's body. When Jellar used his mist on a floored Godzilla, it caused the reptilian to writhe around on the ground as explosions littered his body.
Infrared beams
According to All Kaiju Kaijin (First Volume), Jellar can fire infrared beams from his eyes, though this is not demonstrated in the show.[3]
Oxygen growth
When in his original form, Jellar expanded to 50 times his size after being exposed to the Earth's atmosphere and high concentrations of oxygen after breaking free from the Terror-Beast Missile. Beforehand, Jellar was stated to be able to change in size depending on the concentration of oxygen available.
Energy absorption
Jellar is strengthened by both sunlight and Zone Fighter's Meteor Proton Beam, thus allowing him to shrug off the latter.
Regrowth
After one of Jellar's tentacles was ripped off by Godzilla, it instantly grew into a new organism, Custom Jellar.
Intelligence
After being rescued by the recently created Custom Jellar, the two aliens teamed up to fight against Zone Fighter and Godzilla.
Durability
When the White Garoga presented Jellar to the Garoga Baron aboard the Garoga Space Station, the White Garoga boasted about how Jellar proved immune to Proton Beams as well as sunlight. This was proven true during the monster's one-on-one battle with Zone Fighter, when the hero's Meteor Proton Beam only caused Jellar to topple over before he stood back up, unscathed. Once Godzilla arrived to save Zone, Jellar was easily overpowered by the reptilian, being knocked to the ground and having one of his tentacles ripped off. Even with the help of Custom Jellar, Godzilla overpowered both aliens by throwing them around. When Zone Fighter recovered and recharged, both Jellar and his counterpart were left defenseless against Zone and Godzilla. Jellar survived a blast from Godzilla's atomic breath, falling on top of Custom Jellar, only for both of them to be killed by a second atomic breath in tandem with the twin volleys of Zone Fighter's Meteor Missile Might.

Roar
Like Custom Jellar, Jellar uses altered Gomora roars.
Trivia
- Jellar, like Gigan and King Ghidorah, is one of few Terror-Beasts to have an established origin other than being sent from the Garoga homeworld.
- Unlike most Terror-Beasts, Jellar was contained inside of a red barrel after the Terror-Beast Missile containing the kaiju exploded.
