Mechani-Godzilla (メカニゴジラ Mekanigojira) is a robotic version of Godzilla that appeared in the television show Chibikko Special, which aired on the Tokyo 12 Channel from 1971-1972. Though no image or footage of it is known to exist, it is notable for predating the vastly more famous Mechagodzilla by several years.

Name

The first part of Mechani-Godzilla's name is most likely short for "mechanical", in reference to the creature's machine body.

Development

Mechani-Godzilla was created by a young boy who appeared on the Chibikko Special program. This design earned the boy the show's award of excellence.[1][2]

Design

According to writer Kento Tomoi, Mechani-Godzilla was a Godzilla suit that was repainted silver and possessed a switch on its chest.[1]
