Mechani-Godzilla

Mechani-Godzilla (メカニゴジラ Mekanigojira) is a robotic version of Godzilla that appeared in the television show Chibikko Special, which aired on the Tokyo 12 Channel from 1971-1972.[1] Mechani-Godzilla is also mentioned in the informational book Showa Mechagodzilla Steel Encyclopedia.[2]
Name
The first part of Mechani-Godzilla's name is most likely short for "mechanic," "mechanical," or "mechanism," which is in reference to the creature's mechanical body.
Design
Mechani-Godzilla was created by a young boy that appeared on the Chibikko Special program. This design earned the boy the show's award of excellence.[3][4] Mechani-Godzilla was described as being a Godzilla suit that was repainted silver and given a switch on its chest.[5][4]
Trivia
- Mechani-Godzilla's concept and design predate that of Mechagodzilla.
