Foodlosslla (フードロスラ,   Fūdorosura) is a food waste kaiju who appears in the 2024 Ajinomoto web commercial "Foodlosslla: What Should Humanity Do!?" An amalgamation of the 2.44 million tons of food waste annually generated by households, Foodlosslla emerges in and attacks Tokyo, but is opposed by a squad of Rescue Food Loss Special Investigation Team members.

Name

Foodlosslla's name is a contraction of "food loss" (referencing the monster being comprised of food waste), suffixed with the common kaiju name ending -ra (in this case translated "lla").

Development

Foodlosslla was portrayed through 3DCG produced by Shirogumi and supervised by Takashi Yamazaki.[1] Its dumping of food and tears on civilians was shot practically, using fake food items for the former.[2]

Design

Foodlosslla's design combines traits of both reptiles and slugs. It has a pair of eyestalks with brown eyes, a mouth with sharp teeth and a pair of tusks, a pair of arms with four clawed fingers, a pair of legs that are obscured by a persistent cloud of dust,[1] and a row of spikes going from its head to its tail. Its body is composed of various types of food, giving it a multicolored appearance, though it is primarily green with red splotches.

History

"Foodlosslla: What Should Humanity Do!?"

One day in Tokyo, the combined grief of the 2.44 million tons of food waste generated by households annually formed a kaiju that a news reporter states has been dubbed "Foodlossla". After emerging, Foodlossla grabbed onto Tokyo Tower before raining various foods from its hand onto the fleeing civilians. It then unleashed a torrent of tears from its eyes that soaked the reporter and crowd. Three members of the Rescue Food Loss Special Investigation Team then attempted to shoot the monster with high-powered laser guns, but it had no effect. When all hope seemed lost, the trio were joined by the reporter and an expert, and together brandished various Ajinomoto seasoning products, causing Foodlosslla to bellow.

Abilities

Food shedding

Foodlosslla sheds bits of the food which compose its body as it travels. It also seemed to deliberately drop food from its hand onto civilians.

Tear production

Foodlosslla's eyes are capable of producing streams of tears which drench anything below. Each teardrop has a volume of 500 liters.[1]

Movement

Foodlosslla travels simply by walking, its legs capable of carrying it at speeds of 50 kilometers per hour.[1]

Durability

Foodlosslla was shown to be immune to the Rescue Food Loss Special Investigation Team's laser guns, even at maximum power.

Weaknesses

It is implied that Foodlosslla is susceptible to food seasonings, as it is shown bellowing when the team opposing it begin wielding seasoning products.

Roar

Foodlossla does not precisely roar, but rather repeatedly mumbles, "Mēdā suro dōfu" (メーダースロドーフ).[1] This is roughly the phrase "No food loss" (フードロスだめ,   fūdo rosu dame) said backwards.
