| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Giant Squid is a giant cephalopod monster that debuted in issue #17 of Charlton Comics's Gorgo comic series.
Design
The Giant Squid closely resembles popular depictions of giant squids, although quite exaggerated in size. It has eight limbs, six of which are short and pink arms, while the two larger tentacles are red with black stripes, matching its mantle. Its eyes are black with light blue irises and white pupils.
On page 12, the body color changed to red, and it appeared with blue pupils.
Personality
The Giant Squid attacked Gorgo when he swam past a cave the squid was resting in, indicating that it considered the cave to be its territory. As its battle with Gorgo continued, the Giant Squid realized that it could not win, and so retreated into the ocean after blasting him with ink.
History
- Gorgo #17 (1964)
Gorgo
Issue #17
Gorgo entered a cave on the Caribbean Sea floor when the Giant Squid ambushed him, ensnaring the monster in its tentacles. Gorgo struggled in the squid's grasp until he turned to face it, biting the cephalopod. On the surface, the clash between the two animals caused turbulent currents at the cave's entrance, prompting an officer from a communist military base to send a skindiver to investigate. The Giant Squid released a cloud of ink in an attempt to escape Gorgo, but the monster surfaced with one of its tentacles in his mouth, noticing the humans watching from above. Only when Gorgo grew distracted by the base's weapons did the injured squid escape.
Abilities
Physical abilities
The Giant Squid successfully wrapped its tentacles around Gorgo's neck, ensnaring him for a short time.
Ink
The Giant Squid released an ink cloud in an attempt to scare away Gorgo, but this did not frighten him.
Weaknesses
The Giant Squid struggled to fight Gorgo as the monster outmaneuvered its tentacles. Eventually, bites from Gorgo prompted the cephalopod to retreat back into the ocean's depths.
