Skull Ant
|
The Skull Ant is an insect superspecies[1] which appears in the 2024 Monsterverse video game Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers. They are encountered during the game's campaign expeditions, and one is obtained by the player upon reclaiming the ORCA-M.
Name
Skull Ants are named for their ant-like appearance and the skull pattern present on their abdomens. They are given the cryptozoological classification Cranium Oecophylla, a combination of the English/Latin word "cranium" which refers to the skull, and the ant genus Oecophylla.
Design
Skull Ants are giant red ants with dual pairs of wings and at least two sets of pincers. Their gasters have a pattern resembling a skull and four thorns sticking up from them.
Behavior
Unlike known ant species, Skull Ants do not create nests; instead, a Skull Ant Queen gives birth to larvae internally and houses the colony entirely within her gaster. Skull Ants are also omnivorous and practice a form of matriphagy. As larvae, Skull Ants feed on the Queen's digested food, which is distributed to her gaster, but will begin to venture outside of her as they mature. Once the Queen dies of natural causes, her offspring will eat her remains and then set off to live on their own.

Skull Ants are encountered as enemies in certain Chaser and Monster expeditions. One is also obtained for use by the player upon reclaiming the Monster Biodome square in their base.
Abilities
Physical capabilities
As an enemy or playable unit, the Skull Ant's basic attack is Bite. Though it is not displayed, the thorns on a Skull Ant's gaster are also poisonous: a defense mechanism to prevent predators from swallowing them.
Acid
The Skull Ant is capable of spraying an acid which is "corrosive enough to melt through metal." This is incorporated into its special ability, Acid Spray, which inflicts the Burned debuff for three turns.
