— Gideon Kelson (Godzilla #3) |
The Kai-Killer X is a mecha which appears in the third issue of the 2025 IDW Publishing comic series Godzilla. It heavily promoted the products of its creator, Gideon Kelso, during its brief battle with Godzilla, which ended in the machine's destruction and the death of its pilot.
Name
The "Kai" in the Kai Killer-X's name most likely refers to the Kai-Sei energy which runs through Godzilla and the kaiju, while "Killer" is in regard to its mission to kill Godzilla.
Design
The Kai-Killer is a humanoid robot made of steel blue metal. It lacks a head and its torso suggests a truck or van, enhanced by the presence of wheel-like objects on its elbows and hips, and it is controlled by a single pilot housed inside its chest. Two tubes run along its back and two rectangular boxes sit above its shoulders. It possesses visible arm and leg joints.
History
- Godzilla #3 (2025)
Godzilla (2025)
Issue #3
After Godzilla emerged in Atlanta, a giant robot was dispatched to intervene. Dubbed the Kai-Killer X, the massive machine was sold to the government by Kelso-Ko, owned by Gideon Kelso. As the robot engaged Godzilla, it projected holographic ads for Kelso's other products and business ventures while the voice of Kelso himself emanated from the mech pushing additional products. The Kai-Killer X slashed Godzilla across the chest with its sword, though Godzilla immediately disarmed the mech before tearing off its arm along with a sizable portion of its torso, ending the fight in seconds. The helpless pilot begged Godzilla for mercy to no avail as Godzilla melted the hull of the mech with its atomic breath before departing.
Abilities
Hologram projection and speakers
During its clash with Godzilla, the Kai-Killer X projected three holographic ads for Kelso-Ko products around itself, supplemented by recordings of Gideon Kelso also promoting the products and the mech itself. Godzilla disrupted the recordings after it tore the mech's arm off, although at least one of the projectors persisted even after it melted the machine's torso.
Sword
The Kai-Killer X began its fight with Godzilla by slashing at its chest with a giant sword, sending the monster reeling back but inflicting no apparent damage. Godzilla swiftly knocked the sword out of its hands.
Weaknesses
Godzilla easily tore off one of the Kai-Killer X's arms with one hand and no additional leverage, then blasted a hole straight through its chest with atomic breath, killing the pilot.
Trivia
- The Kai-Killer X's boxy design and the hawking of an "impervious" car from the company that created it may be references to the Tesla Cybertruck, which debuted two years prior to its comic's publication, was advertised as being bulletproof, and became notorious for quality control and safety issues.
