A devilish Destoroyah appears in IDW Publishing's 2015 comic book Godzilla in Hell #4. It teamed with a devilish version of King Ghidorah against Godzilla in Hell.
Name
Neither the devilish Destoroyah nor devilish King Ghidorah are named in Godzilla in Hell #4, as the issue lacks any dialogue. However, the issue's description describes them as "devilish versions of [Godzilla's] greatest foes."
Design
The devilish Destoroyah's appearance is based solely on Destoroyah, though he is somewhat differently proportioned with longer arms in certain panels, giving him a more lanky appearance compared to typical depictions of Destoroyah.
Personality
Like the devilish King Ghidorah, the devilish Destoroyah is one of Godzilla's most malicious adversaries in the series, seeking nothing other than to endlessly fight Godzilla. When the King of the Monsters was taken out of the fight for a time, the demon began fighting the devilish Ghidorah, who he had been allied with up to that point.
Origins
The devilish Destoroyah's origins are unknown aside from his description as "devilish," indicating that he is a sort of demonic entity. He was defeated by Godzilla sometime before the fourth issue, having his horn broken off.
History
- Godzilla in Hell #4 (2015)
Godzilla in Hell
Godzilla in Hell issue 4
Godzilla triumphantly stood on top of the corpses of both devilish King Ghidorah and devilish Destoroyah and began to walk away. However, both monsters quickly healed from their wounds and got back up to battle him once again, with both teaming up against Godzilla in a Beam-Fight which ended in a presumed stalemate. As Godzilla knocked devilish Destoroyah away with his atomic breath, devilish King Ghidorah attempted to attack Godzilla but was thrown away by Godzilla, who was dragged away by devilish Destoroyah's flying form before he could continue attacking.
After devilish King Ghidorah chased after him and dropped him on an antennae tower, he escaped to the wall of the city where he was attacked by devilish Destoroyah. Godzilla repelled him with atomic breath but he split apart into a flying form and two aggregate forms, and sliced Godzilla's head off. Godzilla's body regrew his head and found his decapitated head, just for devilish King Ghidorah to reappear and join devilish Destoroyah once again in torturing the Monster King. They continued to torture him to the point where he gave up and lied on the ground, watching them as they quickly turned on each other in an absence of enemies to fight. Godzilla used this as an opportunity to attack the wall once again though both spotted him and tried to use their beam attacks on him. Godzilla, however, ducked and combined their attacks with his atomic breath to successfully blast a hole in the wall. Both monsters faded into nothing along with the city as Godzilla walked into a white void.
Abilities
Division and recombination
The devilish Destoroyah had the ability to split apart into multiple smaller organisms in order to attack. The flying form alone was capable of dragging Godzilla by the neck with just its jaws, and when working with two aggregate forms, managed to slice Godzilla's head clean off.
Physical abilities
The devilish Destoroyah was strong enough to drag Godzilla by the neck in his flying form. In his perfect form, he bit Godzilla on the neck and shoulder, stabbed Godzilla through the head with his tail, and stabbed the devilish King Ghidorah in the chest with his horn.
Mouth beam
The devilish Destoroyah could fire a purple beam from its mouth, resembling the real Destoroyah's Micro-Oxygen Beam from other media. The beam proved powerful enough to blast a hole in the wall of the hellish Tokyo when it inadvertently combined with the devilish King Ghidorah's beams and Godzilla's atomic breath. It was also seen to be equal in power to the devilish King Ghidorah's beams when the demons' beams collided.
Durability
Throughout issue 4, the devilish Destoroyah endured and survived various attacks from Godzilla and the devilish King Ghidorah.
Intelligence
The devilish Destoroyah was able to coordinate effectively with the devilish King Ghidorah, and used his ability to split apart when he was repelled by Godzilla's attacks.
Flight
The devilish Destoroyah was capable of flight in both its flying and perfect forms. He even felled Godzilla with a flying kick.
Regeneration
Like the devilish King Ghidorah, the devilish Destoroyah was capable of incredible regeneration, regrowing his horn in the span of three panels.
Weaknesses
Prior to issue 4, the devilish Destoroyah was defeated by Godzilla through unknown means, having had his horn broken off. The demon was repelled by Godzilla's atomic breath multiple times, though he was only stopped temporarily. After inadvertently aiding Godzilla in destroying the wall surrounding the city that they fought in, the devilish Destoroyah faded from existence.
Roar
The devilish Destoroyah's roars are represented by the onomatopoeias "REEEEEEKREEAK" and "REEEEEEEEKREEEEEEAK". They are written in red, as opposed to the devilish King Ghidorah's gold and Godzilla's gray.
Trivia
- Ironically, Destoroyah was influenced by the manga character Devilman, who is a demonic being.[1]
- Examples of the real Destoroyah being described as a demon or devil include the Hong Kong DVD dub of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, which calls him "Destroying Devil Beast", and Godzilla: Cataclysm, in which Hiroshi describes him as a "demon."
