The Needlewalker is a dinosaur-like superspecies[1] that first appeared in 2026 in the 14th episode of the Monsterverse TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, "Trespass".
Name
The Needlewalker is presumably named after the thin quills that cover their bodies and their needle-like talons, as well as their nimble, graceful movements.
Design
Needlewalkers generally resemble theropods covered in rigid, green, Aloe-like dermal spines with red underbellies. Their heads are similar to those of phorusrhacids, with gray beaks, talons, and scales.
Behavior
While territorial creatures, the Needlewalkers are not predatory and demonstrate no particular aggression towards humans, though the ones released from Apex Cybernetics' holding cells nevertheless chased after fleeing humans during their chaotic escape. They are described as social creatures that often travel in groups with evidence of a complex social structure stemming from their pack coordination.[1]
Origins
While little is known of the Needlewalkers, they are believed to be a primarily subterranean species drawn to the surface by seismic activity and Titan migration cycles.[1]

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
A pair of Needlewalkers ran by Kentaro Randa on Skull Island just before he climbed under an electric fence surrounding the Apex Cybernetics facility there. "Requiem"
Roughly two weeks later, after infiltrating Apex headquarters in Pensacola, Florida, Lee Shaw, Kentaro, Keiko Randa, and Hiroshi Randa discovered surveillance footage of creatures being contained in the facility that Apex had smuggled from Skull Island, including Leafwings and Vinestranglers. After Shaw and Keiko failed to recognize one of the other superspecies, Kentaro identified them as Needlewalkers before expressing dismay at their cramped holding cells. Though all four were disturbed by Apex's barbaric actions, Shaw told Kentaro that doing something about it was a fight for another day as they sought to recover Hiroshi's Suzuki device from the facility's sublevels. However, after May Olowe-Hewitt's efforts to help Keiko and Hiroshi access Apex's lower levels were repeatedly impeded, Kentaro and Shaw decided to release multiple Needlewalkers to create a diversion and give May more time to help them carry out their heist. Upon being freed and ushered down the hall by Shaw, the Needlewalkers raced through the facility and soon found their way outside, causing mass panic as Apex employees scrambled to avoid the dinosaur-like superspecies. "Trespass"
Abilities
Physical abilities
Needlewalkers are noted for being fast, nimble creatures. Their sharp claws are described as being capable of "anchoring to rock or soil mid-stride".[1]
Quills
The Needlewalkers' distinctive quills have been observed vibrating in unison during hunts, which is believed to grant them additional spatial awareness in the dark.[1]
