A devilish King Ghidorah appears in IDW Publishing's 2015 comic book Godzilla in Hell #4. It teamed with a devilish version of Destoroyah against Godzilla in Hell.

Name

Neither the devilish King Ghidorah nor devilish Destoroyah are named in Godzilla in Hell #4, as the issue lacks any dialogue. However, the issue's description describes them as "devilish versions of [Godzilla's] greatest foes."

Design

The devilish King Ghidorah generally resembles the King Ghidorah from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, though its snouts are longer and more round. Unlike that Ghidorah, the devilish Ghidorah can fold down its wings, giving it an additional resemblance to the initial form of Ghidorah from Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Upon first appearing, the demon's eyes are red with slits for pupils, but they eventually change to a gold or bronze color with traditional pupils.

Personality

Like the devilish Destoroyah, the devilish King Ghidorah is one of Godzilla's most malicious adversaries in the series, seeking nothing other than to endlessly fight Godzilla. When the King of the Monsters was taken out of the fight for a time, the demon began fighting the devilish Destoroyah, who he had been allied with up to that point. His three heads seem to act independently; before he and the devilish Destoroyah attacked Godzilla from behind, his middle and right heads glanced at each other while the left head looked at Destoroyah.

Origins

The devilish King Ghidorah's origins are unknown aside from his description as "devilish," indicating that he is a sort of demonic entity. He was defeated by Godzilla sometime before the fourth issue.

His relation, if any, to King Ghidorah himself, who is featured in issue 2 as one of the explanations for Godzilla being killed and sent to Hell, is not specified.

History

Godzilla in Hell

Godzilla in Hell issue 4

Godzilla triumphantly stood on top of the corpses of the devilish King Ghidorah and Destoroyah and began to walk away. However, both monsters quickly healed from their wounds and got back up to battle him once again, with both teaming up against Godzilla in a Beam-Fight which ended in a presumed stalemate. As Godzilla knocked devilish Destoroyah away with his atomic breath, devilish King Ghidorah attempted to attack Godzilla but was thrown away by Godzilla, who was dragged away by devilish Destoroyah's flying form before he could continue attacking. As Godzilla tried to hide around a building, devilish King Ghidorah spotted him and chased after him though lost sight of him after flying through two buildings. Godzilla took this opportunity to ambush the dragon with atomic breath but devilish King Ghidorah was unfazed and grabbed him to drop onto an antennae tower, temporarily killing him though he recovered and moved to the wall of the city where devilish Destoroyah attacked him.

Devilish King Ghidorah reappeared to attack Godzilla after devilish Destoroyah sliced his head off and the two continued to torture him to the point where he gave up and lied on the ground, watching them as they quickly turned on each other in an absence of enemies to fight. Godzilla used this as an opportunity to attack the wall once again though both spotted him and tried to use their beam attacks on him. Godzilla, however, ducked and combined their attacks with his atomic breath to successfully blast a hole in the wall. Both monsters faded into nothing along with the city as Godzilla walked into a white void.

Abilities

Physical abilities

The devilish King Ghidorah managed to pick Godzilla off of the ground with two of its heads, and plowed effortlessly through the architecture of the hellish facsimile of Tokyo.

Lightning beams

The devilish King Ghidorah could spit lightning from its mouths, similar to the gravity beams of traditional Ghidorahs. These beams, combined with those of the devilish Destoroyah, were able to lock with Godzilla's atomic breath. When both beams further combined with Godzilla's atomic breath, they blew a hole through the wall surrounding the city.

Intelligence

The devilish King Ghidorah was able to coordinate effectively with the devilish Destoroyah. It also chose to drop Godzilla onto a tower, succeeding in impaling him.

Flight

The devilish King Ghidorah is capable of flight, which it used to its advantage against Godzilla.

Regeneration

The devilish King Ghidorah healed scars on its middle and left heads in the span of three panels. Later, it instantaneously healed an injury caused by the devilish Destoroyah's horn.

Weaknesses

Prior to issue 4, the devilish King Ghidorah was defeated by Godzilla through unknown means. The demon's torso was able to be pierced by the devilish Destoroyah's horn. After inadvertently aiding Godzilla in destroying the wall surrounding the city that they fought in, the devilish King Ghidorah faded from existence.

Roar

The devilish King Ghidorah's roars are written in onomatopoeia as "REEREE REEEAAK" and various shortened variations such as "REEREE REEEEE", "REEEAK", "REE REE" and "REEEAKKK". They are written in gold to distinguish them from the devilish Destoroyah's red and Godzilla's gray.

Trivia

  • The Monsterverse version of King Ghidorah would later be associated with devils on multiple occasions: referred to as "the devil" in the Kong: Skull Island marketing's timeline,[1] aligned with the Tarot card The Devil by Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty,[2] and given the epithet "The Devil With Three Heads" in the opening credits of Godzilla vs. Kong.
    • Coincidentally, the devilish King Ghidorah and Monsterverse King Ghidorah used a similar tactic against Godzilla, both picking him up with their necks and flying him into the sky before dropping him from a great height. However, the devilish Ghidorah dropped him on a tower which impaled him, while the Monsterverse Ghidorah simply dropped him onto flat ground.
