Cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by H.P. Lovecraft for his 1928 short story "The Call of Cthulhu". The character almost crossed over with Godzilla in a 1994 film, and again in a 2010 comic project by IDW Publishing as part of Infestation 2, but both were scrapped.[1][2] The two monsters finally met in Guillotine Press's 2024 convention-exclusive comic book Godzilla vs. Cthulhu: A Death May Die Story, a tie-in for the board game Cthulhu: Death May Die. Cthulhu has also previously crossed over with King Kong, in the 2011 tabletop game King of Tokyo.
Design
In most of his depictions, including the one in Godzilla vs. Cthulhu: A Death May Die Story, Cthulhu is a bipedal creature with a humanoid body, an octopus-like head, and dragon-like wings. The comic gives him green skin, eight bright red eyes (four positioned vertically on either side of his face), ten octopus-like tentacles with red suckers that sprout from the bottom of his head, two five-fingered hands with white claws, and relatively small wings with red membranes.

Godzilla vs. Cthulhu: A Death May Die Story
The Nightmare Children awakened Cthulhu with their ritual. As he began his march across the ocean floor, Cthulhu fed on the sea to grow in power, killing sea life. However, he also woke Godzilla from his slumber.
Cthulhu surfaced in Boston, where he proceeded to go on a rampage. The U.S. military attempted to use two biplanes to bombard him, but this proved completely ineffective and Cthulhu summoned minions, including Fishers from Outside, a Dhole, and a Gyaa-Yoth, to deal with them. Cthulhu grabbed people with his tentacles and destroyed more of the city as red lightning emanating from his body struck his surroundings and soldiers futilely fired at him. Suddenly, a boat flew into the Old One's head, knocking him to the ground. Godzilla had arrived to battle Cthulhu. Godzilla defeated Cthulhu's minions with a single tail swipe before Cthulhu wrapped his tentacles around Godzilla's mouth and stabbed him with blades formed from his red lightning. However, Godzilla broke free and punched the Old God before grabbing one of his wings and tearing it off. Cthulhu fired a psychic blast, causing hallucinations of various giant monsters to confuse him; however, X-A Airships arrived and fired their Atom-Smasher Cannons at the two beasts. Godzilla was knocked down, while Cthulhu remained unscathed. As Godzilla appeared defeated and Cthulu walked away from his fallen foe, the reptilian kaiju got back to his feet, having absorbed the energy of the Atom-Smashers' beams. He then fired an orange atomic breath at Cthulhu's back, defeating the Warrior of Azathoth by rendering him immobile.

Hallucinations
Cthulhu utilized a blast of psychic energy in his fight against Godzilla, which caused the Monster King to see visions of various kaiju. Two of them, Mothra and King Ghidorah, blasted Godzilla with beams. All of the visions disappeared when Cthulhu was attacked by the X-A Airships' Atom-Smasher Cannons.
Durability
Cthulhu was unfazed by bombs dropped by planes and the X-A Airships' Atom-Smasher Cannons, the latter being able to cause great damage to Godzilla.
Weaknesses
One of Cthulhu's wings was ripped off with ease by Godzilla. Cthulhu was defeated when Godzilla blasted him with a powered-up orange atomic breath, which left him standing motionless in place.
