- Godzilla attacks Japan. (Godzilla Minus One)
- Following Godzilla's emergence, he attacks numerous American vessels on a path towards Japan. Wary of inflaming tensions with the Soviet Union, the American government opts not to intervene, but authorizes the return of several Imperial Japanese Navy vessels to Japan, including the Takao and Yukikaze.
- In May 1947, the crew of the Shinseimaru and Kaishinmaru minesweepers travel to the Ogasawara Islands to locate Godzilla and stall him while the Takao catches up on its return voyage to Japan from Singapore. When Godzilla attacks them and destroys Kaishinmaru, the Shinseimaru's crew manages to evade Godzilla for long enough for Takao to arrive and rescue them. The warship engages Godzilla at close range, though it is swiftly obliterated by his atomic breath.
- Godzilla makes landfall in Tokyo and rampages through Ginza, eventually leveling the district with his atomic breath and killing at least 30,000 people.
- Operation Wada Tsumi is formulated to take down Godzilla, and is carried out in Sagami Bay. The operation is successful, and Godzilla's body falls apart, though a single piece begins regenerating as it sinks into the depths of the bay.
