• In February, the black dwarf star Gorath makes its closest approach to the Earth, destroying and absorbing the Moon on its approach. The star ultimately passes due to the efforts of the U.N. South Pole Operation to displace the orbit of the Earth with hydrogen jet fields in Antarctica, whose operation had previously been jeopardized by the emergence and disposal of the monster Maguma. • After an expedition to Axis Mundi in 1962 that went horribly wrong, Lee Shaw and his crew spent a week before attempting an escape, when they were preyed on by the Ion Dragon. Lee, the last survivor of the crew, escapes and reaches the surface of the Earth once more to find that 20 years had passed. (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters)
