Geboras

Template:Kaiju Infobox Comic Geboras (ゲボラス,,   Geborasu) is a kelp Template:Kaiju that first appeared in Manga Boys Special Edition: Gamera written and illustrated by Hurricane Ryu Hariken in February 1995.

Appearance

Geboras is comprised of floating fronds of kelp with large glassy eyes and a mouth filled with sharp knife-like teeth.

History

Geboras is a sea monster of unknown origin who appears in the ocean while Gamera is travelling through it. The bizarre plant creature offers little resistance, if not much of a challenge to Gamera, who quickly killed Geboras by consuming it.

Trivia

• Geboras is one of several monsters created exclusively for the manga one-shot; others included Futakobukarappa, Daburyuusu, Marugarappa, Harinezura, Garansharp (similar to, but not the same character as Garasharp), and the massive Chimera-like amalgamation dubbed Powered Gyaos.
• Not counting the barely seen (and equally unconfirmed) underwater plant-life of Terra from Gamera vs Guiron, Geboras is the first plant-based monster to appear in the Gamera franchise, predating the far more well-known Legion Plant by a year, though this might not mean much considering Geboras' incredibly brief run against Gamera.
• Contrary to popular misconception, seaweed is a broad term used for a wide variety of marine plants and algae living within the world's waters, with kelp being among said subgroups.
• Other giant monsters and similar characters in fiction with the 'seaweed motif' includes, but not limited to The Seaweed Monster (The Godzilla Power Hour, Zazahn (The Return of Ultraman), Nori-ra (The Real Ghostbusters), The Creature of the Sargasso Sea (Boris Karloff's Tales of Mystery), The Deadly Creature Below (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea), Kombu Infinity (One Punch Man) Degijon (Colossal Kaiju Combat) Huu (Avatar: The Last Airbender), The Weed Creatures (Doctor Who: Fury from the Deep), and The Killer Seaweed (The Lost Continent, 1968).
