— Investigation report #12 (Godzilla Voxel Wars)

The Fungoids[note 1] (マッシュ,   masshu)[1] are an invasive species of fungus kaiju that appear as the main antagonists in Godzilla Voxel Wars. The in-game investigation reports reveal that the species is of Martian origin. They spread through spores and turn other monsters against the player, who has to defeat them in order to unlock them.

Name

The word Fungoid comes from the fungus. The other names are combinations of either fungus or mushroom and another word. As such, the names Funguirus, Fungalbee, Mushcargot, Muscashroom, Stagshroom, Dungshroom, Rhinoceroom, Mantroom and Slugshroom are results of combining one of the two words with Anguirus, bee, escargot, musca, stag, dung, rhinoceros, mantis and slug.

Design

The Fungoids in general take on a mushroom-like appearance. They all come in various colors which vary based on their level. The colors in order, from weakest to strongest, are red, brown, green, and dark blue, with the world bosses being purple with lime details.

Funguirus have a mushroom cap-like head covered in spots with a pair of large, glowing red eyes at the front. Their bodies end in a short tail and they have two legs which are positioned on their sides. Their feet have two toes with a white claw on the end of each, and they have a small white claw on the back of their heel.

Fungalbees are very insect-like in build, having a head, thorax, and abdomen. They are positioned in a curved shape, so that their head looks forward while their abdomen, adorned with a needle, also points in the direction it is looking. They have two antennae sprouting from the top of their heads and two large, glowing red eyes on the front of their face. Their head is shaped like a mushroom cap and has spots covering it. They have two pair of wings on their thorax and their abdomen, which extends outward past their head, is striped.

Mushcargot are very snail-like, and have two glowing red eyes on the ends of stalks and two antennae below their eyes. Their body is mostly covered in a round shell with a swirling stripe pattern on it.

Muscashrooms resemble fly-like insects, with a head, thorax, and abdomen, and three legs on either side of their thorax. They have very large, glowing red eyes and wings on the top of their thorax just behind their head. The tops of their thorax and abdomen resemble mushroom caps and have a spotted pattern.

Stagshrooms greatly resemble bipedal versions of stag beetles. They have a round body and a mushroom cap-shaped head, which is covered in spots. They have two long, glowing red eyes on top of their face and two large mandibles stick out from the front of their face. They have two arms and two legs, one on each side of their bodies. Their arms have a single white claw on the end of them, and the legs have three large claws, two facing the front and one at the back, that they stand on. They have two pairs of smaller limbs on their torso.

Abilities

The abilities of each Fungoid depend on the specific type.

Parasitization

Fungoids are able to contaminate buildings and other kaiju. Monsters that have been parasitized are turned against the other kaiju via mind control and fight the player alongside the other Fungoids. When buildings are contaminated, they begin to erode and become enemy nests. Both structures and monsters that have been put under control of the Fungoids are covered in large mushroom spores, with the monsters' eyes glowing red like the Fungoids themselves.

Spores

Fungoid spores are able to summon other Fungoids into battle. If an enemy kaiju is on top of the spore, the Fungoid will not be summoned and the spore will be destroyed, but the enemy kaiju will be damaged in the process.

Funguirus

Physical capabilities

  • Funguirus use their bodies to strike or slam into buildings and opponents in front of them, causing knockback. While Funguirus I-IV can only hit one target at a time, Funguirus Ω can cause damage in a gigantic area in front of it.

Fungalbee

Needles

  • Fungalbees are able to fire the needles out of their abdomens for a long ranged attack that causes knockback and reload them immediately.

Mushcargot

Shell

  • When threatened, the Mushcargots can retract into their shell, defending them from enemy attack.

Muscashroom

HP boost

  • Increases health points of all units on its team, besides itself, by 1.
