Cyprus, officially the Republic of Cyprus, is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea. It has been featured in prominently in the novel GODZILLA: Monster Apocalypse.

Following the discovery of diamond smuggling in Sierra Leone, the United Nations banned diamond trading with the nation, which led to criminal organizations being involved in the trade instead. Mark Leland, a British Intelligence Officer, was operating in Cyprus in 2002 to unravel this smuggling route.

During Leland's time in Cyprus, a 'red fireball' was seen across the sky, with the falling point being 5 kilometers away from the Cypriot capital, Nicosia. The object was a part of the Russian Mir Space Station, which had suddenly gone out of orbit, skimmed over England, and landed in Cyprus. To complicate matters, Cyprus had close ties with Russia, and by the time Leland had reached the impact point, the area had been closed off by the Cypriot National Guard.

By 2022, refugees coming from Africa through Cyprus often chose the Turkish city of Izmir as a stopover point on their way to Europe. After the advent of Gezora in the Mediterranean Sea, those who had lost their way ended up staying in Izmir - becoming the site of the largest refugee camp in Turkey.
