Rolisica

Rolisica (ロリシカ Rorishika) is a fictional country which appears in the 1961 novella The Luminous Fairies and Mothra and its Toho film adaptation released the same year, Mothra. In the film, Rolisica is a nuclear power which tested its weapons on Infant Island in the South Pacific. Rolisica arranged for a joint expedition to the island with Japan after shipwrecked Japanese sailors reported that its native inhabitants provided them with a drink granting immunity to radiation. The expedition's leader, the unscrupulous Clark Nelson, abducted two tiny women who also lived on the island, the Shobijin, and forced them to perform in Tokyo. The god of Infant Island, Mothra, hatched and swam to Tokyo to the retrieve the Shobijin, prompting Nelson to flee to Rolisica. After surviving an attack by the Rolisican Atomic Heat Ray Guns on her cocoon, Mothra emerged in her imago form and flew to Rolisica, where she ravaged New Kirk City (ニューカーク・シティ Nyūkāku Shiti). Nelson perished during a shootout with Rolisican authorities, who returned the Shobijin to Mothra under the guidance of linguist Shinichi Chujo and reporters Zenichiro Fukuda and Michi Hanamura.
Rolisica's location is never specified in Mothra, although it is heavily based on the United States. In the film's English dub, Mothra is noted to be flying east from Tokyo in order to reach it.
Name
Rolisica's name is a portmanteau of Russia (ロシア Roshia) and America (アメリカ Amerika). In The Luminous Fairies and Mothra, it is instead called Rosilica (ロシリカ Roshirika), an alternate portmanteau.

Mothra
New Kirk City was attacked by Mothra while she was searching for her missing Shobijin, accidentally causing hurricane force winds with the flap of her wings. This caused much destruction to the streets and the surrounding shops as well as the rooftops. The Shobijin were being held captive by Clark Nelson, a greedy business man trying to use the fairies beautiful singing for profit. The Rolisican police were able to find Nelson and kill him. Shinichi Chujo and his friends then painted Mothra’s religious symbol on an airport runway to get her attention. Mothra soon came, and Chujo's friends returned the Shobijin to her. Mothra then immediately went to her home Infant Island to be with her people once again.

Trivia
- Japan-Rolisica tensions in The Luminous Fairies and Mothra reference public discontent over the 1960 Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security, which strengthened Japan-United States military relations.[1] These tensions are less central in Mothra, but still present.
- Early script drafts for Mothra vs. Godzilla had a version of the Frontier Missile sequence where Rolisican forces fought Godzilla instead of the United States Navy.[2]
