The Hydra is a mythological creature that originated in ancient Greek mythology, and is featured in issue #2 of Godzilla: Rage Across Time.

Name

The Hydra's name stems from the Greek work hydros, meaning water-snake, as the Hydra in the Heracles myth from which it originates is partially aquatic.[1]

Design

The Hydra is orange in color with three clawed toes on each of its two feet. It has a frill on the backs of its heads, and small green eyes with purple eyelids on either side of them. It stands on two legs, has no arms, and has a fan-like fin on its tail.

History

Godzilla: Rage Across Time

After Godzilla appeared in ancient Greece, the god Poseidon was sent to defeat him. He was ultimately unsuccessful, and Godzilla reached Olympus in a tidal wave. Zeus, the king of Olympus, then called for the Hydra to defend Olympus. The Hydra quickly bit Godzilla's arm, which prompted it to tear off the Hydra's head. While Hydra's two new heads were growing in, Godzilla blasted them with his Atomic Ray, causing four heads to reform. Zeus then sent a lightning bolt at Godzilla, allowing the heads to mature completely, but at that point, Godzilla learned from his mistakes, bit into one of the Hydra's necks and tore flesh from its back, and tackled the Hydra into Mount Olympus. The mountain then crumbled on top of the Hydra and killed it.

Abilities
