The Living Caves are the residence of the Great Apes in the subterranean realm of the Hollow Earth. Comprised of the Skar King's throne room , Shimo's lava-fall blocked prison, and the layered stretch of land where the Great Ape laborers work, the Living Caves are the fiery region of the Hollow Earth that the Skar King and his subjects were imprisoned in by Godzilla when the King of the Monsters managed to defeat them after their long conflict with him.
Appearance
Naturally located in a volcanic region of the Hollow Earth's second, subterranean biosphere, the Living Caves are surrounded by flowing lava and enormous rocky hills that lead to a centerpiece where laborers worked to move boulders and construct their primitive civilization. Nearby is a block-able lava-fall concealing a massive chamber that housed Shimo, where she was restrained using power chains composed of elongated Warbat-like backbones and skeletons. Somewhere in the centerpiece of the residence is an enormous ribcage and a short distance in front of it are three giant wooden pikes upholding the heads of inferably executed workers. High up above the heart of the Living Caves was the former chamber of the Skar King. In there, the tyrant hoarded a harem of female Great Apes and along with them their children, whom are inferably his very progeny.
History
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Suko led Kong across a bridge, made from the skeleton of a Superspecies far larger than any on record, toward a volcanic area.
Meanwhile, Kong's human allies discovered that in the far distant past, a powerful malevolent ape sought to conquer the surface world. Leading his kind into a great conflict with The Monster Who Ate a Star, almost killing the latter in the process, the so deemed "Skar King" and his followers were ultimately sealed away in a subterranean realm of the Hollow Earth, where he has been plotting his return ever since then.
At last, Kong and Suko arrived in a large cavern full of countless other apes toiling away in labor. As they walked amongst them, Suko acknowledged an elderly ape named Gnarled Finger, who looked at him and Kong with concern. When a guard harms a laborer, Boots, for dropping a stone, Kong intervenes, helping the fallen ape up to his feet before being confronted by the guard. Annoyed by the other ape's attempt at intimidating him, Kong knocked out the guard with a punch before bellowing for the leader of the apes to reveal themselves. Aware of Kong's presence and intent, the Skar King silenced the futilely alerting One-Eye as he emerged from his cave chamber. Roaring down at his subordinates before leaping down, the Skar King walked amongst his bowing subjects as he approached Kong to analyze his challenging adversary. Noticing Kong's titanium tooth, the Skar King mocked the matter as his subjects sycophantically laughed with him. Noticing Suko, the Skar King furiously confronted the young ape, only for Gnarled Finger to passively defend Suko. The Skar King at first relented, only to kick Gnarled Finger into a lava lake just to spite Kong. Suko cried out in sorrow and the enraged Kong bellowed a challenge to the tyrant. In the ensuing battle, the Skar King proved a formidable opponent, easily outmaneuvering and outwitting Kong. Disarming Kong and constricting him with his Whipslash, the Skar King chuckled as Kong gradually choked and futilely struggled. Motivated by the sight of Suko retreating into the surrounding crowd in fear, Kong ferociously countered his enemy before establishing his strength and apex mentality, prompting the Skar King to cut the fight short and have Kong killed right away. The evil leader called upon his ultimate weapon: a chained reptilian Titan that significantly dwarfed Kong. Commanding the creature to attack Kong via the blue crystal at the end of his Whipslash, the Skar King faced brief resistance before exerting her with pain, forcing her to give in and adhere to his order. Charging a power blast of freezing energy, Kong evaded the attack before blocking it with his axe under the idea of absorbing it, only to be proven wrong and knocked down. Disarmed and left with his right arm critically harmed, Kong fled. Suko came to his aid by pointing out an exit, allowing Kong to barely dodge a third blast and escape. Ordering some of his soldiers to exterminate Kong, Skar King hoisted the retrieved axe in victory.
Some time later, One-Eye returned to the Living Caves after following along and Suko to Malenka where he discovered vile vortexes leading to the surface world. Faking his exhaustion while entering his leader's chamber, One-Eye signed to the Skar King about his intel. Tossing aside a piece of flesh he was eating, the Skar King rose to his feet and boomed a call to arms. Shimo was subsequently freed from her chains and a handful of soldiers came to their king's side. Armed with his Whipslash and Kong's former battle axe, the Skar King rode atop Shimo as he lead his warriors out to war.
After a fierce final stand against the Skar King that ended with the tyrant's ultimate death, Kong and Suko, now riding atop Shimo, returned to the Living Caves. Seeing for themselves the end of their enslavement, the jubilant apes triumphantly roar along with the returned trio, accepting Kong as their new leader.
