Deplector is a fictional species of terrestrial crabs that first appeared in the 2005 film, King Kong.
Design
Female Deplectors are huge crabs with gray armor on their whole bodies, with 12 feet long antennae and 6 feet long claws. Males are much smaller than females, and are slightly bigger than newborn females, and they are small, pale, soft-shelled, and defenseless.
Ecology
Deplectors were land crabs that lived in the cracks and crevices of Skull Island. While they lacked eyes, the Deplector used their antennae to locate prey, mainly Vulturesaurus that flew in giant flocks at night, and often would eat about a dozen at a time. Delpectors used a sticky anchor cord to keep them fastened to the rock walls as they hunted, however they could be severed at will. Females laid hundreds of eggs at a time, and they all left into the chasm after hatching. Male Deplectors are noticeably dwarfed by females, and never leave their larval stage. Instead they inhabit a female's cave and fertilize their eggs.
History
