Godzilla: Fight or Flight

At Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, F-15 pilot Tyler Nie tells his fellow pilots how Godzilla saved his life from the MUTOs in 2014 and inspired his vocation. They react with amusement until their attention is pulled by a news report that Godzilla is approaching the West Coast of the United States. Nie tries to convince them that Godzilla would only make landfall to oppose another Titan threat, as he did against King Ghidorah and Rodan with Mothra. They only laugh at him, with one stunned that he knows that many monster names. Meanwhile, Godzilla swims beneath an aircraft carrier in the Bermuda Triangle.

Admiral Howze calls Nie's strike squadron into action against Godzilla, who is on course for Pensacola. Nie hesitates at the ladder of his plane, causing Howze to question his resolve, but he agrees to join the mission. Nine F-15s, including his own, and three F-35s engage Godzilla at Apex Cybernetics' U.S. headquarters. As Nie tries to warn the other pilots that Godzilla is looking for something, they score several missile hits to no effect. Godzilla destroys one of the jets with a swipe of his claws, then shoots down two more with his atomic breath. Nie engages Godzilla head-on, trying to aim for his eyes, but finds himself unable to shoot, knowing they're on the same side. Godzilla's atomic breath scores a glancing hit on his plane, severing the cockpit and allowing him to eject safely. He watches Godzilla destroy the Apex facility and expresses hope that he finds what he's seeking, unaware of Mechagodzilla's eye nearby.

Trivia

  • Godzilla: Fight or Flight is the third Monsterverse comic to be illustrated by Zid, after Skull Island: The Birth of Kong and Kingdom Kong. It was originally announced under the title Call to Action.[3]
  • One panel shows an F/A-18 with elements from the Soviet-built Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum.
  • Known changes in the revised PDF version of the collection are as follows:
    • Much of the text outside of the comics themselves can be selected and copied, including the previously-hidden words in Kong's superspecies profile from Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.
    • Less of the Bone Graveyard text behind a photo of Hank Marlow's crashed plane is visible.
    • The Skullcrawler superspecies profile now capitalizes the "B" in "Beyond."
    • The two paragraphs in the Cryptozoology section of the Sker Buffalo's superspecies profile are combined into one.
    • "Threatened" is changed to "threated" in the Mire Squid's superspecies profile.
    • The Cryptozoology section of Kong's superspecies profile is expanded, including speculation on whether his species is "the primary template of all human life." The bracketed text next to his name at the top of the profile is changed from "Apus" to "Titanus Kong", with most of the latter concealed behind another page unless selected.
    • Behemoth's nature is listed as "Bio-Seismic" instead of "Bio-Electrical", matching the original profile for the Titan released in 2020.
    • A typo in Camazotz's profile ("translatin") is corrected.
    • Paragraph breaks in Na Kika, Scylla, and Tiamat's superspecies statistics are removed.
    • The text in Scylla's profile is lightly edited, including the removal of "arachnoid" as a description of the Titan.
    • The text in Tiamat's profile is significantly revised, altering the specifics of some of her abilities and describing her as the source of "the sea serpent myth told as a warning by sailors throughout history." Her nature is also changed from "Bio-Electrical" to "Bio-Ultraviolet."
