"The End of This Nightmare... Once and for All" is the 13th and final issue of IDW Publishing's Godzilla. It was published on July 10, 2013.

Description

The devastating conclusion to Swierczynski & Gane's monster epic is here! Godzilla is battered and beaten but not down for the count...yet his most fearsome foe ever still stands before him! With the end of the world near, Boxer has one final decision to make: to kill or not kill Godzilla!

Plot

Godzilla gets up at the ruins of Liberty Island where Keizer Ghidorah had thrown him. Immediately, the three-headed monster fires his Antigravity rays, sending Godzilla flying for miles until he collides with and destroys the Verrazano–Narrows Bridge. Back with the Monster Kill Crew, Claire unveils the Skullsplitter, a modified Headache Beam, which might work on Godzilla, but she is unsure if it will work on Keizer Ghidorah, who Boxer explains is the monster they're aiming to kill rather than Godzilla. Their helicopter circles around Keizer Ghidorah and gets hit by an Antigravity beam, knocking out the pilot. Harrison takes control of the helicopter. At the same time, Godzilla wakes back up and after an attack that did little harm to his three-headed enemy, starts floating in the air from being hit with Antigravity beams and proceeds to be carried high into the atmosphere, with the Monster Kill Crew following behind. Keizer Ghidorah dropped Godzilla, and following Godzilla's crashing into the ground, the space monster forcefully slammed down into Godzilla's body. As the Claire prepared to use the Skullsplitter against Keizer Ghidorah, Rodan arrived to help.

After being hit by the Skullsplitter, Keizer Ghidorah's right head redirected the extremely annoying sensation the beam caused back at the helicopter, dazing everyone. Rodan then created a shockwave with his wings which beheaded Keizer Ghidorah's middle head. In response, the monster's other two heads blast Rodan with their Antigravity rays and send it far away. Following that, Godzilla got back up and was bitten in the neck by Keizer Ghidorah's left head. Godzilla quickly grabbed the other head and used it to decapitate the head that was biting his neck. Godzilla then blasted Keizer Ghidorah with his atomic breath and forcefully stepped on its remaining head's neck, snapping its neckbones and finally killing it.

Seeing Godzilla has defeated Keizer Ghidorah, Boxer asks Harrison to bring them down close to Godzilla's head so that he can kill Godzilla while he's weak. Boxer takes a hold of the Skullsplitter and fires it on Godzilla to no effect. Despite Claire's begging of him to let go of wanting revenge against Godzilla (Godzilla having killed his daughter) and just be happy that the world has been saved, Boxer decides to sacrifice himself to try to end Godzilla. As Harrison saw his father about to jump off, he finally regained his voice after screaming for him. Boxer jumps into Godzilla's mouth, thinking that perhaps the Skullsplitter had no effect because of Godzilla's hide. Boxer disappeared inside Godzilla, who continued walking back into the ocean.

Seven days later Harrison, Claire and Hikari were at Boxer's funeral. After he had finished talking with Claire about their memory of his father, Hikari asked Harrison what he was going to do next, to which Harrison replied with asking both of them to join him in continuing to fight monsters and protect the world.
