The Smog Factory is a sentient factory created by Toho that first appeared in the 1971 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Hedorah.
Name
The name "smog factory" comes from the fact that is a factory which produces smog, tying in to the environmentalist message of the movie.
History
Showa Series
Godzilla vs. Hedorah
During one of the film's animated segments, the Smog Factory makes an appearance, grabbing up bits and pieces from the environment around it and converting it into smog. Hedorah soon appears and eats the smog being produced, sitting on top of the factory and consuming it whole.
Abilities
Claws
The Smog Factory has two giant mechanical claws, which it uses to grab up plants and other things nearby it.
Producing Smog
The Smog Factory creates great quantities of smog, big enough in size that it attracted Hedorah towards it.
