Gelderah (ゲルデラー,   Geruderā) is a kaiju created by Toho that first appeared in episode 8 of the 1973 tokusatsu kaiju series Zone Fighter, titled "Defeat the Invader of Fear!"

Design

Gelderah bears resemblance to a beaked dragon, and also has features of an insect such as the large antennae protruding from his forehead. He also has pointed, elf-like ears for hearing and his brain is visible in between them which glows red and orange. His scales are yellow and blue.

History

Zone Fighter

"Defeat the Invader of Fear!"

After a Garoga Terror-Missile had crashed into a lake and Zone Fighter had stopped the activity of the Garoga agents nearby, the missile exploded and released the Red Headed Terror-Beast Gelderah. Zone Fighter grew to giant size and engaged Gelderah in an epic battle, concluding with Zone Fighter cutting the monster's head off with a level 2 Arrow Beam.

Abilities

White-Hot Ray

Gelderah can breath a corrosive mist from his mouth that can cause explosions or set anything it contacts ablaze. According to All Kaiju Kaijin (First Volume), this attack is called a White-Hot Ray (白熱光線,   Hakunetsu Kosen). Gelderah used this mist on Hikaru's Mighty Liner causing the vehicle to start smoking, leaving Hikaru to transform into his giant form. After gaining the upper hand on Gelderah, the terror-beast forced Zone Fighter off of him with the mist.

Physical abilities

During his fight with Zone Fighter, Gelderah was able to grapple the hero and hit him over the back a few times. After weakening Zone with his bite, Gelderah was easily able to knock the hero around with some swipes.

Teeth

Gelderah possesses sharp teeth which he can utilize to grip an opponent. Gelderah used his teeth to bite down on Zone Fighter's neck causing the hero to yell out in pain.

Brain and antennae

Gelderah's brain and antennae help him track his opponents' movements.

Amphibiousness

After the Terror-Beast Missile had activated, Gelderah emerged out of it while underwater and attempted to attack Hikaru immediately afterwards, before surfacing from the lake he was in.

Durability

After emerging from the lake, Gelderah endured numerous blasts from Hikaru's Mighty Liner, including the Dyna-Beam, but only appeared to be irritated by it. When fighting his giant form, Gelderah withstood multiple Meteor Punches with two to the face and one to the chest, yet seemed unbothered by it. Gelderah was also able to survive a volley of Zone's Meteor Missile Might, before finally succumbing to Zone's Wide Slice Chop which decapitated him. Gelderah's back spines are also harder than diamond.
