The Skar King (スカーキング is a simian Sukā Kingu)Titan[3][1] who appeared as one of the antagonists in the 2024 Legendary Pictures film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, along with Shimo.[8]
Name
Perhaps coincidentally, Skar is a Scottish dialect word for "wild".The Skar King's name was revealed through a post by the official Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Instagram account on November 29, 2023.[9] Product descriptions for Playmates' Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire toyline frequently dropped the "the" before his name.[10]
Development
The Skar King was inspired by the villainous railroad conductor Shack from the 1973 film Emperor of the North Pole.[1]
Design
The Skar King's appearance somewhat resembles Kong's, but with proportions similar to a chimpanzee and red fur similar to that of an orangutan. He has a lanky build, with long arms and legs. Reddish fur covers the majority of his body with the exception of his face, his scalp, and his extremities. He possesses light blue eyes, red war paint on his face, and a scar above his right eye. He wears the Whipslash, a weapon made from the bones of a Warbat,[11] on his right shoulder, like a sash.
Personality
The Skar King is a dangerously brutal, sadistic, ruthless, tyrannical and highly malevolent ruler. He takes pleasure in mistreating his subjects, including Suko and the other Great Apes, as well as Shimo, relishing in their suffering.
He's very unpredictable, shown when he was prepared to harm Suko when the latter's caretaker intervened, to which the Skar King responded by seemingly relenting and backing down. Moments later, he retaliated by callously kicking the elderly ape into a lake of lava to his death - henceforth showcasing the depths of his ruthlessness and unpredictability. He even extends his cruelty towards his slaves and children, showing absolutely no regard for their well-being and sadistically flinging food at them just to instill fear and terror in their hearts.
As such, he displays a twisted sense of humor. This was mainly evident when he first met Kong, in which the Skar King laughed at Kong's metal tooth. In addition, he is a dangerous combatant who relies on dirty tricks and seldom fights fairly, likely due to his years of experience.
Origins
At some point in ancient times, the ruler of the Great Apes, the Skar King, desired to rule the surface world, and attempted to conquer it. His lust for domination brought him and his kind into conflict with "The Monster Who Ate a Star," Godzilla, and the Great Apes went to war against the Titan. The Skar King and his army almost claimed Godzilla's life, but the King of the Monsters sealed the Red-Haired Conqueror and the Great Apes deep in the Hollow Earth.
However, the evil Skar King would not lose his desire for conquest as time passed, and he waited deep in his lair plotting his revenge, all while ruling over the Great Apes with just as much ruthlessness as ever. The Skar King also claimed an ancient power in the form of the ice Titan Shimo, who he controlled with pain, forcing her to act as a weapon for him.

Abilities
Whipslash
The Skar King possess a giant whip called the Whipslash,[12] which is made from the spine of a Warbat[13] and ends with a glowing, light blue crystal. He wields it with great skill, using it to block Kong's axe and later tearing the top off a building to throw at Kong.

The Skar King can use the crystal at the end of the Whipslash to command Shimo by pointing it towards his enemies. This process appears to inflict a significant amount of psychogenic pain on Shimo until she obeys the command given to her, as she was seen slamming her head against the ground when he used the crystal to command her to attack Kong. This crystal also doubles as a sharp weapon, as it lacerated Kong's hand. However, upon its destruction Shimo was freed from his control. The exact way that the crystal hurts Shimo is unknown.
Physical Capabilities
As a Great Ape Titan, Skar King possesses immense physical strength and speed, and was easily able to overpower the apes within his kingdom and force a tyrannical regime where even the larger apes are weaker than him, shown when he launched Suko's caretaker into the lava with a single kick. Despite his strength however he's shown to be inferior to both King Kong and Godzilla when he fought both, needing Whipslash to overpower Kong's axe in the former using leverage while he was completely unable to do anything to overpower the King of the Monsters.
Speed and Agility
While lacking in pure physical might compared to the likes of Kong, Godzilla or Shimo, Skar King outdoes all of them in sheer athletic prowess despite his advanced age. He's easily able to cover vast distances and dodge attacks from multiple angles and counter with lightning fast speed. When he found he couldn't overpower Kong in their first battle, he switched strategies to use his superior agility to not only gain the advantage but disarm the younger Ape. When fighting on the surface in Brazil, he was also able to cover the entire city in in several leaps while simultaneously avoiding Godzilla's atomic breath.
Intelligence
Much like Kong, the Skar King is intelligent enough to wield weapons, notably his Whipslash, which he uses very effectively in combat. He had his subjects scout and is able to command entire army of Great Apes effectively. He used Suko as hostage knowing Kong was attached to the smaller ape. He is able to understand sign language after one of his subjects explained to him that there was a portal in the hollow earth to the surface.
Durability
The Skar King is capable of surviving a hit from Godzilla's atomic breath, albeit an indirect blast, with only slight burns on his fur, and lived through being completely frozen up until being shattered by Kong. He was able to tolerate direct hits to the face from Kong using the B.E.A.S.T Glove. In addition to being thrown towards Godzilla and receiving a tail blow from him that ends up flying back towards Kong and still having the ability to move when trying to order Shimo.
