King Kong is a giant ape monster created by Joe Devito who first appeared in Merian C. Cooper's King Kong.

Design

Kong's general design in the Devito Kong property have his design be primarily based upon the 1933 RKO film design, with a page in Kong on Planet of the Apes even being an edited photo of Kong's stop motion model. There are some differences however, namely with a more muscular build and arms. The coloring on the fur is also somewhat inconsistent across the property; most usually going with a black or brown coloration for him and other members of his species, though in the Kong: King of Skull Island comic, his fur is more of a bluish tinge.

The most significant design difference is in the one shot Kong: Gods of Skull Island, where while his general is similar to past designs, there's some notable proportional differences. Namely his head is generally smaller, his shoulders are bulkier, he has bushier eyebrows and a more humanoid nose structure. The infant Kong design seen in the same one shot seems to be pudgier and has shorter arms than his adult counter part.

Oddly despite the Kong design used in Kong: The Great War using the 1933 design as the main design throughout the series, the Chapter pages uses the Monsterverse design as apart of the interior art.[1]

Kong's design in Skull Island: Rise of Kong seems to be an amalgamation of different Kong designs: He has the general bodywork of the 1933 design, though his face, skin and fur color look more akin to his 1962 design, a more fit frame akin to his Monsterverse counterpart, and scars akin to his Universal design. His body starts out with a bare chest and abdomen, though as the game goes on, the abs are covered by fur and he's given scars on his pectorals. His beard becomes fuller and eyebrows become bushier throughout the game as well

Death Becomes Them

Two thousand years before the collapse of human civilization and the rise of the apes, King Kong was taken from Skull Island and brought to New York, where he was killed and fell from the Empire State Building. A newspaper clipping from the "New York Globe" detailing this event survived long enough in the ruins of the city which the apes dubbed the "Forbidden Zone", and it provided clarity on the female Kong that had washed up dead on their shores. It is unknown how much of the main continuity's story actually takes place in this spinoff, as the continued presence of Deathrunners on the island would point to his not having defeated them by the time of his kidnapping.
