Godzilla (ゴジラ Gojira) is a kaiju who first appeared in the 2021 Godzilla short film Godzilla vs. Hedorah.
Name

Godzilla's Japanese name, Gojira (ゴジラ), comes from a combination of the Japanese approximation of "gorilla" (ゴリラ gorira) and the Japanese word for "whale" (クジラ kujira).
Development

At least two different suits have been employed for this Godzilla across his short film appearances, both utilizing Shinichi Wakasa's FinalGoji design from Godzilla Final Wars (2004). The suit used in Godzilla vs. Hedorah was a promotional suit created for public appearances, and not actually featured in Final Wars.[3] It lacked a radio-controlled jaw, and its mouth therefore had to be controlled with a wire.[4] Conversely, the suit from Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks was a screen-used Final Wars stunt suit, which Wakasa's company MONSTERS, Inc. modified for the short.[5] Godzilla has been portrayed by stuntman Naoya Matsumoto in all of his appearances. Fellow stuntman Hikaru Yoshida, who played Godzilla's opponents Hedorah and Gigan in Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Fest Godzilla 3 respectively, also stepped into the Godzilla suit for shots of the monster's legs in Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar.[6]
Design

The suit used in the Godzilla vs. Hedorah short is very similar to the close-up suit, but had some noticeable differences. Its skin was darker and its dorsal fins were white instead of a bone-white color, these fins also being more pointy. The head was flatter and had bright orange eyes and a longer lower jaw. The torso was slightly shorter, and the toes, toenails, and tail were elongated. This suit was also considerably smaller than the close-up suit. In the Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar short film, Godzilla posses a healed wound on his cheek maded by Gigan in the previous short film Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks.

Godzilla vs. Hedorah (2021)
Godzilla interrupts the pollution monster Hedorah at an oil refinery while the latter was feeding on a smokestack. As the monsters engage in combat, they ravage many of the buildings in the complex. After Godzilla unleashes his atomic breath, Hedorah knocks him to the ground and squirts him with its toxic mist, burning his right eye. Godzilla kicks Hedorah into some power lines, which weakens the pollution monster. As Hedorah struggles to recover, Godzilla envelops the creature in an atomic blast of breath and obliterates it. Triumphant, he stomps away.
Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks
Following his victory over Hedorah, Godzilla confronts Gigan, who appears in a blue flash over a Japanese city. After the cyborg lands, Godzilla opens the fight with a blast of atomic breath, but Gigan shields his face with his Hammer Hands and returns fire with his forehead laser. Godzilla stumbles backwards before charging Gigan as he continues firing lasers. Gigan slashes Godzilla on the cheek, leaving a small wound. Godzilla continues fighting in close quarters, now taking care to avoid Gigan's Hammer Hands; one errant swing slices the top off a radio tower. Godzilla aims a punch at Gigan's forehead laser, breaking it. Enraged, Gigan activates his buzz saw, cutting a deep wound into Godzilla's chest. He collapses onto an overpass, dazed. Gigan approaches and prepares to finish him off, but Godzilla catches his Hammer Hands mid-swing and rises to his feet. Keeping his grip on the blades, Godzilla breathes atomic fire into Gigan's face; the cyborg falls backwards and explodes. Godzilla lets loose a long victory roar.
Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar
Godzilla, left with no other kaiju to battle, begins attacking Japan, stomping through a city and firing his atomic breath at a building. During this chaos, Jet Jaguar is activated at a military base and deployed into battle against the rampaging monster.
As Godzilla continues his destruction, Jet Jaguar descends from the sky and touches down in front of him, entering a battle stance. Godzilla repeatedly fires his atomic breath and Jet Jaguar runs towards him, dodging each blast. The robot reaches the kaiju and knees him in the chest before locking hands while Godzilla pushes him backwards. Jet Jaguar throws off Godzilla's hands, punches him several times, and ducks under a claw swipe as he kicks the reptilian. Godzilla retaliates with a slash from his claws and kicks his opponent away, but Jet Jaguar runs back to him and delivers a leaping punch. Godzilla knocks him down and tries to hit Jet Jaguar with his tail, but the robot dodges it, jumps, and spin-kicks Godzilla in the face mid-air, knocking him to the ground. Jet Jaguar lands and Godzilla returns his feet, roaring. The two charge and lock hands again, with Godzilla throwing Jet Jaguar to the side and firing his atomic breath, but the robot dodges and answers with kicks and punches. Again, Godzilla attempts to use his atomic breath, but Jet Jaguar ducks and grabs Godzilla's tail as it is swung at him.
Jet Jaguar swings Godzilla around into a building and tries to punch him, but Godzilla evades and positions himself behind his adversary. Jet Jaguar turns in time to see the King of the Monsters charging his atomic breath. Jet Jaguar runs in the opposite direction, taking the ray in the back and stumbling to the ground. As he begins to rise, Godzilla kicks him in the chest and stomps towards him. He grabs the robot by the head and lifts him into the air before throwing him away into a building. As Jet Jaguar catches fire in multiple places, Godzilla stands over him, charging his atomic breath to deliver the finishing blow. Suddenly, a bolt of electricity strikes Godzilla in the face, sending him to the ground. Jet Jaguar looks to the sky to see King Ghidorah appear in a massive fireball, cackling as he lands in the city. He begins spewing gravity beams throughout the cityscape, destroying many of the structures. Seeing this, Jet Jaguar gets to his feet and walks over to the struggling Godzilla, grabbing the monster's hand and lifting him to his feet. Godzilla gives a small roar to his new ally and Jet Jaguar returns a thumbs up. The two turn to face the golden invader, and Godzilla roars.

Atomic breath
In all of the short films, Godzilla is able to use his atomic breath. He has used it in all of his battles with the other monsters. In Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks, Godzilla used his atomic breath to defeat both monsters.
Physical abilities
Godzilla is able to use his arms and legs as a source of damage to his opponents. In Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla kicks Hedorah, knocking him back. In his battles with Hedorah, Gigan, and Jet Jaguar, Godzilla used his sharp claws and strong tail to hurt his opponents.
