The creature opened his eyes. Instantly, he knew he had been transformed. He was no longer the dinosaur Godzillasaurus. Now he was Godzilla, the dinosaur monster. He was no longer one of the last of his kind. Instead, he was the first of something terrible and new. All of a sudden he realized that even if he found others of his kind, it wouldn't matter. They would shun him. He was alone. Forever

— Narrator, Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Godzilla (ゴジラ,   Gojira) is a giant monster who appeared in the Random House series of children's novels by Scott Ciencin.

Name

See also: Godzilla#Name.

Godzilla's Japanese name, Gojira (ゴジラ), comes from a combination of the Japanese approximation of "gorilla" (ゴリラ,   gorira), and kujira (クジラ), the Japanese word for "whale."

Appearance

Godzilla is illustrated differently in each book, with Bob Eggleton's cover art and illustrations using a different pre-existing Godzilla suit for each book. Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a reimagined take on the 1954 film, uses the ShodaiGoji design, Godzilla Invades America uses a Heisei Godzilla design, Godzilla: Journey to Monster Island uses the MosuGoji design, and Godzilla vs. the Space Monster uses KingGoji

Personality

Godzilla is characterized as a lonely soul, believing himself to be the last remaining dinosaur. His mutation would only intensify this loneliness as it ensured to him that he would always be alone even if he ever found another Godzillasaurus or other dinosaurs and would lead him to unleash his wrath on humanity. Through his interactions with various psychic children, Godzilla's opinions on humanity soften, though he still dislikes skyscrapers, seeing them as mocking him. Godzilla eventually gains a new family when he leads various American mutations to the scientific preserve on Monster Island, where he finds other surviving Mesozoic monsters in Rodan and Anguirus. The need to protect this family and stop another mass extinction strengthens his resolve when King Ghidorah attacks the Earth.
