Ultraman
|
This article concerns a recently-released film or other piece of media. More information will be added to the article as it becomes available. |
Ultraman (ウルトラマン, real name Lipia Urutoraman) (リピア, is an alien who appears in the Ripia)2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. He is based on the classic Tsuburaya character who debuted in the 1966 series of the same name.
Name
As the name implies, "Ultraman" is a combination of the English words "ultra," spelled in Japanese as urutora (ウルトラ), and "man" (マン). In the original Ultraman series, Ultraman stated that he had no true name, and Hayata began calling him Ultraman. In Shin Ultraman, he is tentatively classified as Ultraman by the SSSP as a shortening of Giant Humanoid Creature Ultraman (巨大人型生物ウルトラマン. Zoffy at one point refers to him as "Lipia" Kyodai Hitogata Seibutsu Urutoraman) (リピア, assumed to be his real name, before correcting himself to Ultraman. Ripia)
Development
Shinji Higuchi, Hideaki Anno and Katsuro Onoue at the first public release of Shin Ultraman's statue
Design
Ultraman resembles the third Ultraman suit used in the original series. However, his physique is slender and tall. The iconic Color Timer located on his chest is missing as Shin Ultraman's appearance is directly based on the original timer-less Ultraman design by Tohl Narita.[7] Due to the limitless nature of CGI, Ultraman lacks eyeholes and a dorsal fin to contain the zipper of the suit. His signature markings are slim and droop to his upper stomach while his predecessor's are thick and on his chest.

Trivia
- The first look at Ultraman's design was not in a trailer, but rather an image during the opening ceremony of Tsuburaya Convention 2019 on December 13.[9]
- Much like Anno and Higuchi's interpretation of Godzilla, Ultraman resembles an earlier concept from his debut outing. While Godzilla has a similar head to the maquette used for the iconic image of Godzilla biting a train, Ultraman is based off Tohl Narita's 1983 painting "The Incarnation of Truth, Justice, and Beauty".[10]

Neronga
|
This article concerns a recently-released film or other piece of media. More information will be added to the article as it becomes available. |
Neronga (ネロンガ is a burrowing reptilian Neronga)kaiju who appears in the 2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. and is based on the kaiju of the same name who first appeared in third episode of the 1966 original Ultraman series, "Science Patrol, Move Out".
Name
Neronga's name is allegedly a combination of the infamous Roman emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus's first name and the common kaiju suffix -nga.
Design
Much like its original counterpart, Neronga is a grey, pudgy creature with two rows of bright yellow plates resembling those of Baragon going down its back with dorsal spines emerging between them. It has a wide mouth with bright red gums and lips, filled to the brim with countless small teeth. Neronga's face bares a slight resemblance to Anno and Higuchi's Godzilla, having beady eyes with small pupils and a tongue-less mouth. The top of its head is adorned with two insectoid mandible-like antlers and a single yellow nasal horn that flashes in six spots. Neronga possesses orange glowing spots on its neck and humanoid hands with five fingers, a elongated claw poking out from its thumb. The sides of Neronga's plates appear to have a smaller pair of ridges that resembles human vertebrae.

Trivia
Neronga, Gabora, and Pagos all use the same CGI model assets. This can be seen as both monsters have long-clawed hands, a ridge that resembles a human spine, and the same pattern of scales that can be seen all across their bodies. This is most likely a nod to both monsters being created from a modified Baragon suit.
