Ultraman
|
This article concerns a recently-released film or other piece of media. More information will be added to the article as it becomes available. |
Ultraman (ウルトラマン, real name Lipiah Urutoraman) (リピア, is an alien who appears in the Ripia)2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character first debuted in the 1966 Tsuburaya Productions series of the same name.
Name
As the name implies, "Ultraman" is a combination of the English words "ultra," spelled in Japanese as urutora (ウルトラ), and "man" (マン). In the original Ultraman series, Ultraman stated that he had no true name, and Hayata began calling him Ultraman. In Shin Ultraman, he is tentatively classified as Ultraman by the SSSP as a shortening of Giant Humanoid Creature Ultraman (巨大人型生物ウルトラマン. Zoffy at one point refers to him as "Lipiah" Kyodai Hitogata Seibutsu Urutoraman) (リピア, assumed to be his real name, before correcting himself to Ultraman. Ripia)
Development
Shinji Higuchi, Hideaki Anno and Katsuro Onoue at the first public release of Shin Ultraman's statue
Design
Ultraman resembles the third Ultraman suit used in the original series. However, his physique is slender and tall. The iconic Color Timer located on his chest is missing, a reference to the original Ultraman design by Tohl Narita.[8] As a CG creation, Ultraman lacks eyeholes for a suit actor to see out of and a dorsal fin to hide the zipper of the suit. His signature markings are slim and droop to his upper stomach while his predecessor's are thick and on his chest.
When Ultraman first lands on Earth, his patterns are a silver only slightly darker than the rest of his body. His face is modeled after the suit used in Ultraman's first 13 episodes, with a slightly open mouth and an decrepit-seeming appearance.

Spacium Ray
Ultraman fires his deadly Specium Ray from his right hand, which must be held vertically with his left arm positioned horizontally just below it. The beam was able to destroy Neronga in a single hit and injured Zarab to the point that he was forced to shed his Ultraman disguise, but was overpowered by Mefilas's own energy attack and failed to breach Zetton's shield.
Ultra Slash
Ultraman can conjure the Ultra Slash by bending his arms towards each other and orienting his right to face up. From there, he throws the serrated ring of energy. It is capable of slicing clean through buildings and was able to kill Zarab instantly. Additionally, Ultraman can create a larger variant of the attack that seperates into eight smaller Ultra Slashes. Trivia
- The first look at Ultraman's design was not in a trailer, but rather an image during the opening ceremony of Tsuburaya Convention 2019 on December 13.[9]
- Much like Anno and Higuchi's interpretation of Godzilla, Ultraman resembles an earlier concept from his debut outing. While Godzilla has a similar head to the maquette used for the iconic image of Godzilla biting a train, Ultraman is directly based off Tohl Narita's 1983 painting "The Incarnation of Truth, Justice, and Beauty".[10]

This article concerns a recently-released film or other piece of media. More information will be added to the article as it becomes available. |
Neronga (ネロンガ is a burrowing reptilian Neronga)kaiju who appears in the 2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character debuted in the third episode of the original 1966 Ultraman series, "Science Patrol, Move Out", and has reappeared in several Ultra Series shows since then, starting with 2009's Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle.
Name
Neronga's name is allegedly a combination of the infamous Roman emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus's first name and the common kaiju suffix -nga. In-universe, he is named "on impulse" by Disaster Prevention Agency Minister, like other kaiju before him.
Design
This article or section needs to be cleaned up to meet the standards of Wikizilla. |
Much like its original counterpart, Neronga is a grey, pudgy creature with two rows of bright yellow plates resembling those of Baragon going down its back with dorsal spines emerging between them. It has a wide mouth with bright red gums and lips, filled to the brim with countless small teeth. Neronga's face bares a slight resemblance to Anno and Higuchi's Godzilla, having beady eyes with small pupils and a tongue-less mouth. The top of its head is adorned with two insectoid mandible-like antlers and a single yellow nasal horn that flashes in six spots. Neronga possesses orange glowing spots on its neck and humanoid hands with five fingers, a elongated claw poking out from its thumb. The sides of Neronga's plates appear to have a smaller pair of ridges that resembles human vertebrae.

Invisibility
Neronga's cells can reconfigure themselves as to not reflect nor absorb any light, resulting in the beast becoming practically invisible. However, this is not a perfect camouflage as the dust kicked up from its movements revealed its form very easily.
Electricity
Neronga feeds on electricity. It can also weaponize it by turning its smaller horns around and firing a continuous bolt of lightning from its nasal horn. Although Neronga's lightning generates 500,000 kilowatts of power, it had no effect on Ultraman.

Trivia
- Neronga, Gabora, and Pagos all use the same CGI model assets. This can be seen as both monsters have long-clawed hands, a ridge that resembles a human spine, and the same pattern of scales that can be seen all across their bodies. This is most likely a nod to both monsters being created from a modified Baragon suit.
- Appearing in the mobile game Godzilla Battle Line, Neronga is the first Ultra Series kaiju to have a physical appearance in Godzilla media.

Gabora
|
Gabora (ガボラ is a burrowing reptilian Gabora)kaiju who appears in the 2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character debuted in the ninth episode of the original 1966 Ultraman series, "Lightning Operation", and later featured in the 1993 U.S.-filmed series Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero.
Name
In-universe, Gabora is presumably named "on impulse" by the Disaster Prevention Agency Minister like other kaiju before him, including Neronga.
Development
To be added.
Design
Gabora bears a striking resemblance to Neronga, sharing a similar body. However, Gabora has a much smaller, skeletal head. Six beady eyes glow crimson inside sunken sockets while four nostril-like holes reside in the equivalent area to Neronga's nasal horn. In place of Neronga's yellow back plates, Gabora has two purple screw-like organs that run down its back and continue past the end of its tail. Additionally, its head is surrounded by six plates that can close into a conical drill.
