Containment fields are barriers designed to restrain Titans that appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and its novelization, and were later mentioned in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - The Official Movie Novelization.

Design

TBA - Based off of descriptions in the KotM book, this section may need to be separated into sections based off of which Titan it is containing

Mothra's containment field appeared as a glowing blue, vertical net. When malfunctioning, it glowed red.

History

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

As Dr. Emma Russell and her daughter Madison enter the Temple of the Moth, they are greeted by Monarch entomologist Dr. Tim Mancini, who informs them that the Titan housed there has suddenly become incredibly active after sleeping peacefully previously. As they enter an observation room overlooking a large chamber, they gaze upon a giant glowing blue egg. As the egg begins pulsating and glowing brighter, a gigantic mass breaks through the egg. The hatchling sheds the amniotic fluid covering it, revealing itself to be giant larva. Dr. Mancini introduces it as Titanus Mosura, better known as Mothra. A containment field is activated around the colossal larva, but inexplicably deactivates shortly afterward. Dr. Mancini informs Emma that it seems some outside party is interfering with their systems.

Mechanisms

Containment

The fields are tailored to the specific Titans they are assigned to restrain. This means that Titans who have not been registered for a containment field before Monarch is given the chance cannot be effectively barred.

Trapping

The containment fields are able to be set up in order to suprise-trap Titans if they walk into them.

Weaknesses

Mothra's containment field was able to be hacked by an ecoterrorist group lead by Alan Jonah, causing it to shut down and allowing the larva to move from her hatching place unimpeded. Na Kika's containment field was rendered useless when the Titan tricked Monarch's monitoring equipment into thinking it was dead by disguising its radiation signature, allowing Na Kika to destroy the underwater base which held it.

Monarch director Hampton mentions that an ideal plan for dealing with Scylla's recent feeding spree would be to trap her using a containment field, but that this would not work because Scylla had never been in one before.

Trivia

  • Due to laying dormant underground, Scylla was never registered for a containment field. This means that Monarch was unable to trap her using the containment fields after she emerged in 2019.
