Gabora bears a striking resemblance to Neronga, sharing a similar body. However, Gabora has a much smaller, skeletal head. Six beady eyes glow crimson inside sunken sockets while four nostril-like holes reside in the equivalent area to Neronga's nasal horn. In place of Neronga's yellow back plates, Gabora has two purple screw-like organs that run down its back and continue past the end of its tail. Ultraman (ウルトラマン,   Urutoraman), real name Lipiah (リピア,   Ripia), is an alien who appears in the 2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character first debuted in the 1966 Tsuburaya Productions series of the same name.

Name

As the name implies, "Ultraman" is a combination of the English words "ultra," spelled in Japanese as urutora (ウルトラ), and "man" (マン). In the original Ultraman series, Ultraman stated that he had no true name, and Hayata began calling him Ultraman. In Shin Ultraman, he is tentatively classified as Ultraman by the SSSP as a shortening of Giant Humanoid Creature Ultraman (巨大人型生物ウルトラマン,   Kyodai Hitogata Seibutsu Urutoraman). Zoffy at one point refers to him as "Lipiah" (リピア,   Ripia), assumed to be his real name, before correcting himself to Ultraman.

Development

Design

Ultraman resembles the third Ultraman suit used in the original series. However, his physique is slender and tall. The iconic Color Timer located on his chest is missing, a reference to the original Ultraman design by Tohl Narita.[8] As a CG creation, Ultraman lacks eyeholes for a suit actor to see out of and a dorsal fin to hide the zipper of the suit. His signature chest patterns are thinner and more angular than his 1966 counterpart while the lower "pants" design has an indent at the bottom of each thigh.

When Ultraman first lands on Earth, his patterns are a silver only slightly darker than the rest of his body. His face is modeled after the suit used in Ultraman's first 13 episodes, with a slightly open mouth and an decrepit-seeming appearance.

The beam was able to destroy Neronga in a single hit and injured Zarab to the point that he was forced to shed his Ultraman disguise, but was overpowered by Mefilas's own energy attack and failed to breach Zetton's shield.

Ultra Slash

Ultraman can conjure the Ultra Slash by bending his arms towards each other and orienting his right to face up. From there, he throws the serrated ring of energy. It is capable of slicing clean through buildings and was able to kill Zarab instantly. Additionally, Ultraman can create a larger variant of the attack that seperates into eight smaller Ultra Slashes. However, Mefilas was able to swat away the Ultra Slash with little issue and Zetton's forcefield completely negated it.

Gabora (ガボラ,   Gabora) is a burrowing reptilian kaiju who appears in the 2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character debuted in the ninth episode of the original 1966 Ultraman series, "Lightning Operation", and later featured in the 1993 U.S.-filmed series Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero. The Shin Ultraman version of Gabora also appears in the non-canonical web series Shin Ultra Fight.

Name

In-universe, Gabora is presumably named "on impulse" by the Disaster Prevention Agency Minister like other kaiju before him, including Neronga.

Development

Tohl Narita designed the original Gabora for the 1966 Tsuburaya Productions series Ultraman.[1] He was the last of four Ultra Q and Ultraman monsters to be portrayed by a remodeled Baragon suit originating from the 1965 Toho film Frankenstein vs. Baragon, preceded by Pagos, Neronga, and Magular. Legendary suit actor Haruo Nakajima, who played Baragon, also portrayed these four monsters.

In Shin Ultraman, Gabora's CG model was made from a modified Neronga model, cutting costs and referencing their shared real-world origin.[3] In the film, SSSP biologist Yumi Funaberi notes the similarities between the two monsters, as well as Pagos, foreshadowing their true nature as bioweapons.

In Shin Ultra Fight, one or more motion capture performers from Stunt Team Gocoo portrayed Neronga.[2] Their fight choreography was improvised, with the principle that there were no bad takes, and only refilmed in the case of technical malfunctions with the CG models.[4] The animation was spearheaded by Studio Bros and Modeling Bros in association with Shirogumi and alphaliez,[2] who used the video game engine Unreal Engine.[4]

Design

Gabora bears a striking resemblance to Neronga, sharing a similar body. However, Gabora has a much smaller, skeletal head. Six beady eyes glow crimson inside sunken sockets while four nostril-like holes reside in the equivalent area to Neronga's nasal horn. In place of Neronga's yellow back plates, Gabora has two purple screw-like organs that run down its back and continue past the end of its tail. Additionally, its head is surrounded by six plates that can close into a conical drill.

Personality

Origins

Gabora is the eighth and final kaiju bioweapon awakened by environmental devastation caused by humans and secretly controlled by the alien Mefilas. The monster's original creator is unknown.

Abilities

Drill tendrils

The two rows of spinning plates on Gabora's back can partially detach from his tail, allowing them to move freely, Gabora is capable of using these tendrils as a means of high speed locomotion when flipped on his back. Additionally, they are sharp enough to puncture the base of a mountain and wield the necessary strength to keep him perfectly in place.

Radiation

Gabora primarily uses radiation as sustenance but he can also repurpose this energy to emit an blue heat ray from his mouth, strong enough to visibly push Ultraman back. He is able to control the intensity of this beam at will but even at its lowest-shown state of power, the attack releases massive amounts of radiation into the environment.

Head plates

The plates that surround Gabora's head can close, creating a drill-like structure that can spin at rapid speeds. While this is mostly used for the purpose of burrowing through the ground, this adaptation also serves as his primary weapon. The plates can also rotate while they're open, which seemingly serves as the catalyst for Gabora's irradiated heat ray.

Roar

Like the original version of the character, the Gabora in Shin Ultraman utilizes King Kong roars from King Kong vs. Godzilla.

Trivia

  • Being labeled as the eighth kaiju to have appeared in Japan, Gabora coincidentally shares a name with the title character of the 2020 shōnen manga Kaiju No. 8.

Zetton (ゼットン,   Zetton) is an alien bioweapon unleashed by Zōffy to annihilate humanity in the 2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character debuted as a 'space dinosaur' in the 39th and final episode of Tsuburaya's 1966 Ultraman series, entitled "Farewell, Ultraman." Zetton crossed over with Godzilla and other Japanese pop culture characters in Banpresto's Compati Sports games Battle Soccer: Champion of the Field and Battle Baseball, released for the Super Famicom in 1992 and Famicom in 1993, respectively. The Shin Ultraman version of the character also appears in episode TI5 of the non-canonical web series Shin Ultra Fight—which recreates part of his battle with Ultraman from the original series shot-for-shot—as well as the mobile game Godzilla Battle Line.

Name

Zetton's name is a combination of the final letter of the English alphabet, Z (read as zetto in Japanese), and the final kana of the Japanese syllabary, ん (n). This name was chosen to signify finality, as Zetton was Ultraman's last opponent of his original series.[1] In Shin Ultraman, Zōffy introduces Zetton as the Ultimate Celestial Suppression Weapon (天体制圧用最終兵器,   Tentai Seiatsu-yō Saishū Heiki), with Ultraman recognizing its name to be Zetton. In Shin Ultra Fight, Zetton is given the epithet Space Dinosaur (宇宙恐竜,   Uchū Kyōryū), which he possessed in his original incarnation in Ultraman.

Abilities

Superheated fireball

Zetton's ultimate weapon is a one-terakelvin superheated ball of energy (超光熱球,   chō kōnetsu kyū), or simply fireball (熱球,   nekkyū), powerful enough to not only destroy Earth but evaporate the entirety of the Solar System and further affect an area light-years wide. Zetton creates the fireball by concentrating beams of energy projected from the yellow compartments on its chest. Zetton then splays out the angular coverings on its body and shifts its limbs into a horizontal railgun-like posture in preperation to fire.

Unnamed Energy Machine Gun

Relatively-small circular objects located in front of Zetton's torso can fire a hail of energy bullets. They are presumably some of Zetton's weakest attacks as they cause no visible pain or stress in Ultraman when he's pelted by them.

Arm Blasts

FYf2MTPaAAIZfnX .jpg

Zetton can fire red bolts of energy from the sides of its arms. Multiple consecutive shots can destroy Ultraman's Ultra-Barrier.

Durability

Zetton is protected by a kind of forcefield, making it virtually indestrucible even to Ultraman's weaponry. According to Ultraman, all of the thermonuclear weapons in the world, equating to roughly 2 million kilotons of TNT, would be "totally insufficient" in damaging Zetton.

Selected video games

Battle Soccer: Champion of the Field

Zetton is a player for the Big Beasters. His special move is Zetton Napalm (ゼットンナパーム,   Zetton Napāmu), igniting the soccerball in flame and sending it flying.

Battle Baseball

Zetton is a pitcher for the Ninja Invaders. His special movie is called Plasma Ball (プラズマボール,   Purazuma Bōru).

Added in Season 16, alongside Mefilas, Zetton is a is a four-star aerial unit requiring 8 energy to summon to the battlefield, making him the second most expensive unit in the game, losing only to Godzilla Earth, requiring 8 energy to be summoned. Zetton stands in the air on the Leader area, when an enemy unit gets close, he'll start shooting his Arm Blasts consecutively at it. Similar to Burning Godzilla, Zetton has four bars upon his life bar that slowly fill as he stands and attacks on the battlefield. His Arm Blasts will get increase based on the number of bars filled. Once he is killed or all the bars get full, he peforms his superheated ball of energy, with the number of bars filled determining the blast radius and the amount of damage dealt to enemy units. He has a super long reach, a wide search range, and attacks every 1.2 seconds, tied with King Caesar, making them the second units with the shortest attack speed, losing only to Moguera with a attack speed of 1.1.[2] The only way for Zetton to reach the enemy Leader will be if the player uses KIDS to teleport him to the enemy Leader area.[3]
