Plot
In Ancient Greece, two warring factions were destroyed by Godzilla. The Olympian god Hermes brought this news to his father, Zeus, who scoffed at the mortal antics. Aphrodite attempted to get Zeus to help them, but he sternly refused, seeing mortals as a nuisance. Not wanting to see Aphrodite so distraught, Poseidon went to investigate. While in the wreckage of the two fleets, the god of the sea noticed that enormous claw marks had been scratched through the ships before being attacked by Godzilla. High on Mount Olympus, Zeus' wife Hera sided with Aphrodite and Ares in that the mortals needed shaping and that fear without love would destroy them. They then felt a tremor beneath them, and looked down on the city to learn that Poseidon had failed and that a new evil was invading. Godzilla quickly vaporized Ares with his atomic breath, and Zeus summoned the Hydra to battle him. Godzilla tore off some of the Hydra's heads, and it grew more, but after learning his opponent's secret, Godzilla drove the Hydra into Mount Olympus, causing the mountain to collapse, and take the kingdom of the gods with it. Zeus was the only Olympian left alive, and as his revenge he vanquished Godzilla with his lightning powers. This encounter drained his godly powers and left him alone, as the effort had leveled the entire city. Zeus began to feel empathy for the mortals, and decided that if he was ever to become a god again he should learn about their troubles and needs, and to outgrow his former arrogance. While living in Pompeii, Rome, Zeus wrote down his tale, and made an illustration of Godzilla before Mount Vesuvius erupted and Godzilla emerged from it, destroying the entire city and Zeus with it.
In the year 2016, Dr. Thompson and Nikki Kasumi continued their work in Pompeii. They discovered an incredibly well-preserved body posed in terror with an illustration of Godzilla, leading Katsumi to suggest that Godzilla was a species and that there were more than one throughout history, but Thompson suggested that there was only one Godzilla and that he had shaped human history more than humans had shaped his.
