Poseidon is the god of the sea, storms, earthquakes, and horses in ancient Greek mythology. He appears in the 2016 IDW Publishing comic book Godzilla: Rage Across Time #2.

Design

Poseidon is a muscular humanoid with long gray hair which is pink at the tips. His hair is braided, while his facial hair is long and free like that of Zeus. He wears a golden tiara on his head, golden armbands on each wrist, golden bands around his ankles, and an aqua green tunic with a golden accent. His trident has a matching aqua green handle while its protrusions are gold.

Personality

When two human factions were mysteriously killed at sea, Poseidon volunteered to investigate, though only to please the concerned Aphrodite.

History

Godzilla: Rage Across Time

"Ancient Greece"

Poseidon overheard a report by Hermes that two mortal factions once at war had both been wiped out at sea. Though Zeus was apathetic, Aphrodite begged him for help, prompting Poseidon to offer his help. Poseidon arrived at the remains of the human ships, including one with three giant claw marks. Suddenly, a massive wave appeared behind him before giving way to reveal Godzilla. Poseidon immediately challenged the monster, leaping at his head with his trident. Following their battle, Godzilla rode a tidal wave created by Poseidon to Mount Olympus; upon seeing the monster, Aphrodite remarked that Poseidon had failed.

Abilities

Hydrokinesis

Poseidon lifting himself and creating a tidal wave

Poseidon possesses control over water, manipulating the ocean to lift up a sunken ship, to raise himself into the air, and to create a tidal wave against Godzilla.

Trident

Poseidon wields a barbed golden trident, which he attempted to attack Godzilla with. He also gestured with it when commanding the sea, possibly out of necessity.

Weaknesses

In spite of his divinity, Poseidon was defeated by Godzilla, though it is not shown how. In addition, Poseidon and the other Olympians' power depended on the faith of their human worshipers.
