History

Godzilla: Legends

Underdog

Matsumiya worked at the Zone 8 Kaiju Defense Force Research Facility, and was part of the team overseeing development of a device designed to attract Godzilla. One day, Destoroyah attacked the base, and Matsumiya's military defenses were no match for the monster. Matsumiya then approached the creator of the G-Signaler, Doctor Brian Anders, who was unwilling to use it. Matsumiya then ordered him to try, but it was ineffective. Matsumiya and Anders then fled the base with Samantha Tagger, but Matsumiya became trapped beneath some falling debris, and ordered the others to leave him. Despite his right eye being injured in the attack, Matsumiya was able to free himself before the building collapsed and made his way to the last remaining helicopter on the base. Inside it, he heard Anders talking with Tagger on the radio about luring Destoroyah to some tanks of Freon on the grounds that could be used to freeze the monster if they had taken the helicopter to use its tow cable. Matsumiya then carried out Anders' plan and ejected himself from the cockpit before the helicopter crashed into the tank, which froze Destoroyah. During the fight, Anders confessed to Matsumiya that the G-Signaler he had built was really designed to repel kaiju, and that that was the reason that it failed to summon Godzilla to fight Destoroyah. Matsumiya congratulated Anders, but did question why it never occurred to him that militaries would be equally interested in a device to repel Godzilla as one to summon him.
