Dilophosaurus is a genus of carnivorous theropod dinosaurs from the Early Jurassic Period. It is most famous for its depiction throughout the Jurassic Park franchise, and has also appeared in other media such as the animated King Kong television series Kong: King of the Apes.
Appearance
The Dilophosaurus in Kong: King of the Apes appear radically different from both their real-life counterparts and other fictional depictions. It is portrayed as an enormous theropod resembling a Tyrannosaurus rex or Allosaurus with a single thick crest on its snout as well as an armored brow ridge that protrudes into horns past the back of its head and a downwards-pointing spike on its chin, none of which the real animal had. Additionally, its body is countershaded, the underside being light orange and progressing until it reaches dark brown around its upper jaw and back. The Dilophosaurus appears to be fused with stone, possessing deep brown and black lumps of rock-like armor all over its back, and replacing its crests, teeth, and claws. This rock-like armor has glowing, lava-like cracks along various parts of it.

Kong: King of the Apes
"The Primordial World Below"
Panchi, Lukas Remy, and Danny Quon plummeted into a volcano, sending them into a primordial world beneath Africa. There, two Archaeopteryx prepared to attack them, which accidentally disturbed a Dilophosaurus. The Archaeopteryx fled, and the Dilophosaurus turned its attention to the humans. Before the dinosaur could attack them, however, Kong appeared and fought it off.
"Lost Civilization... Found!"
In the City of the Apes, Richard Remy manipulated the city's geothermal energy system via in order to cause a cave-in and create an escape route from the primordial world. During the resulting cave-in, two Dilophosaurus were alerted to Richard's presence, and attempted to attack him. However, Richard stumbled onto a loose rock, and a stomp from one of the Dilophosaurus caused the rock to lift slightly, before geothermal pressure from below launched the rock upwards and Richard out of reach of the dinosaurs.
"No Place Like Home"
While Lukas, Jonesy, Danny, and Panchi were traveling in Lukas and Jonesy's helicopter to the City of the Apes, the group were relieved after Kong scared away a Quetzalcoatlus, but their focus slipped and the helicopter hurtled towards a cliff face. Jonesy managed to pull up in time, but flew up right near the face of a Dilophosaurus. The Dilophosaurus attempted to bite the helicopter, but Jonesy flew the craft out of the way of the dinosaur's jaws and continued on to the City of the Apes.
"Sky's the Limit"
Botila destroyed the volcano entrance to the primordial world in order to trap Kong and his friends, causing extensive damage across the primordial world. Lukas, Jonesy, and Panchi took the helicopter to survey the damage done to the primordial world, and saw Dilophosaurus among the spooked dinosaurs fleeing from the catastrophe. Panchi then spotted a mother Dilophosaurus near the edge of a fissure, her young trapped on a ledge below and in danger of falling into the lava at the fissure's bottom, and the group agreed to rescue the baby Dilophosaurus. As they flew close, the mother―not realizing they were intending to save her young―attacked the helicopter, prompting Jonesy to fly the chopper a short distance away. Lukas attempted to use an energy cable gun to pull the baby to safety, but found its foot was caught in a pile of rocks, preventing him from doing so. Lukas hooked himself up to a cable in the chopper and went over to the ledge where the baby was, but the mother bit down on the cable and tore it loose from Lukas, trapping him on the ledge with her baby. Jonesy flew the helicopter near the mother to distract her while Lukas crossed the ledge to the baby. When Lukas attempted to break the rocks loose, the baby―also not recognizing Lukas' intentions―attacked him. Panchi shot out a set of cables from a cable gun to restrain the baby while Lukas freed it, but he accidentally pulled a rock loose below himself and the baby, prompting him to the grab hold of the baby, which was held by the cables. With that, Jonesy flew Lukas and the baby away from the fissure and back over to solid ground, keeping ahead of the pursuing mother. Lukas' grip slipped, and he fell onto the ground right in the path of the mother Dilophosaurus, and he leapt out of the way of her as she ran over to her young. With the mother and her young reuinited, Lukas joined Panchi and Jonesy in the helicopter and they flew away.
Abilities
Physical abilities
In Kong: King of the Apes, the Dilophosaurus are shown to be quite strong, being able to briefly push against Kong. They primarily rely on their jaws to try and catch potential prey. Additionally, unlike their real-life counterparts, they possess club tails that they alternatively use against their targets.
Camouflage
In Kong: King of the Apes, the Dilophosaurus' skin texture and coloration help them blend into their often-volcanic surroundings when lying down. This camouflage was convincing enough that Neither Lukas, Danny, Panchi, or the Archaeopteryx noticed one's presence until it got up.

Trivia
- Ironically, Kong: King of the Apes Dilophosaurus' singular crests make them more similar to Monolophosaurus jiangi, another Jurassic theropod.
