Dengu (デングー Dengū) is a space kaiju that first appeared in the 2006 Amapro short film Golden Shachi Monster King Rampus.
Name
Its name is most likely based on the Japanese yokai tengu. It may also be a reference to fish species named after the yokai, such as the Little dragonfish, "Umitengu" (lit. "ocean tengu") in Japanese, or the Goblin shark having an alias "Tenguzame" (lit. "tengu shark").
Development
Characteristics and stats of Dengu are similar to that of Daiei kaiju.[1]
Design
Dengu has a short, spherical, blue-skinned body. It has a frog-like mouth lined with triangular teeth and lips, catfish-like whiskers ontop of it's mouth, and beneath its eyes and on its chin protrude a four of curved spikes. Dengu's eyes are large with tiny pupils and glow orange in the dark, and behind them sit three gill holes. A large rostrum protrudes from its face, and its back is covered in large spikes. Dengu has four small, lumpy limbs tucked under its body which end in three-clawed hands and feet.

Abilities
Super Electricity
Dengu can emit Super Electricity (超電気 Chō Denki) of 10,000,000,000 volts from every thorns it has.[1] It also can fire it as a wavy cyan laser from its rostrum.

Fire breath and Flight
Dengu can breathe blackish-orange flames from its mouth.
It is able to use the attack as jets to fly. During the flight, it shapeshifts into a flight mode resembling a horseshoe crab, and uses its secondary head instead.[1]

Dengu Nose
Dengu has a developed nasal horn called Dengu Nose (デングー鼻 Dengū Bana). It has a 100,000,000,000 hardness of diamond, and serves as a powerful melee weapon.[1]
Dimensional mobility
Dengu can freely travel dimensional boarders, and can inhabit dimensional rifts. With this ability, Dengu is capable of flustering opponents and delivering surprise attacks.[1]
Weakness
Dengu uses its barbels to receive orders from the aliens, while the barbels may be its weak points.[1]

Trivia
- Naoki Karasawa, the designer of Dengu and King Rampus, illustrated an official advertisement for a DVD box set for Gappa featuring Dengu battling the titular Gappa, where all three kaiju were designed after legendary creatures from Japanese folklore.[1]
- As being a presumed reference to Daiei monsters, the fight between Gappa and Dengu was titled as "Enormous Giant Beasts Great Air Decisive Battle" (大巨獣空中大決戦 Daikyojū Kūchū Daikessen), potentially referencing to the Japanese titles of Gamera vs. Gyaos, Gamera the Guardian of the Universe, and Gappa respectively.[1]
- The second piece of artwork would be reused for some of the plastic bags the Dengu toys arrive in.
