Monarch museum creatures |
Godzilla: Awakening | Many creatures or their remains were on display in the museum inside Monarch Unit's headquarters in the 1940s:
| |
Triceratops |
Kong: Skull Island (skull) |
A Triceratops skull rested in the Valley of the Fallen Gods on Skull Island. It is unknown if living Triceratops dwell elsewhere on the island.
Giant snake |
Kong: Skull Island - The Official Movie Novelization | After Kong attacked the helicopters escorting the 1973 Landsat expedition to Skull Island and downed the entire group, ex-Special Air Service tracker James Conrad attempted to get to high ground in order to get a better look at the surrounding topography. While climbing, he touched what looked like a vine, but turned out to be a 60-foot-long snake which tried to eat him. The giant serpent possessed a head as large as that of a full-grown human's, and fangs the length of a man's finger. Though it nearly constricted him to death, Conrad was able to kill it by stabbing it in the head with a knife.
Giant wasp |
Kong: Skull Island - The Official Movie Novelization | During their expedition through the island, Conrad's party encountered a carnivorous plant with several dead animals inside its maw, including a wasp the size of Weaver's hand.
Carnivorous plant |
Kong: Skull Island - The Official Movie Novelization | After Kong downed all of the choppers carrying the members of the Landsat and Monarch expedition to Skull Island, James Conrad's party encountered a carnivorous plant with several dead animals inside, including "a wasp the size of Weaver’s hand." The carnivorous plant's digestive juices were said to be extremely acidic.
Iwi painting creatures |
Kong: Skull Island - The Official Movie Novelization | The creatures Kong defends Skull Island from are more diverse than just the Skullcrawlers. The Iwi paintings also depict "giant reptilian beasts, one with three heads. A crocodile fifty feet long. Snake-like monsters, slinking from holes in the ground and snapping towards the sun. Web-footed creatures, spikes along their backs spearing bloodied human shapes, diving into the ocean surrounding the island."
Squid-like creature |
Kong: Skull Island - The Official Movie Novelization | A squid-like creature attacked the Grey Fox, trying to drag Warrant Officer Reg Slivko into the water. Hank Marlow threw the boat into reverse and injured it with the propeller, but it soon returned, attacking Slivko again. Lin San freed him with Marlow's katana. Once the creature had enough purchase on the boat, it raised itself out of the water, only for James Conrad to shoot out one of its eyes. After San cut off another tentacle, it retreated.
The creature's tentacles are described as "a dozen feet long with fine webbed fins and elongated heads ending with small, suckered mouths." They lack suckers, and are instead "heavily ridged with muscle."
| |
Giant spider |
Godzilla: King of the Monsters |
While fending off attacking Monarch soldiers in the Temple of the Moth in China, an enraged Mothra picked one of the men up with her mandibles and tossed him into a huge spider web. There, a giant spider could be glimpsed awaiting its next meal.
Unidentified creature |
Godzilla: King of the Monsters |
While Sam Coleman is speaking to the United States Senate on behalf of Monarch, an unidentified creature is glimpsed in news footage fighting Godzilla. The creature is much larger than either of the MUTOs, and does not match any of the stock footage used from Godzilla or Kong: Skull Island.
Creature that might or might not be Anguirus |
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (skeleton) |
Just outside of Godzilla's underwater lair laid the skeletal remains of a giant spiked quadrupedal monster. It was destroyed, along with the rest of the submerged temple, following the detonation of the nuclear device which revived Godzilla.
Mike Dougherty tweeted about this Easter egg a little over a week after the film came out in theaters, saying: "The skeleton of a creature that might or might not be Anguirus is briefly visible in one shot, just outside Godzilla’s underwater lair."[2]
Piles of unidentified creature bones |
Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization |
While receiving a tour of Monarch's Castle Bravo facility, Mark Russell came across the carcasses of the male and female MUTOs, Jinshin-Mushi, and a large pile of unidentified creature bones. He appeared disturbed at the idea of Monarch dissecting the remains.
Fern bird |

After Mike tried to intimidate it, the creature charged at full speed. They prepared to fight it hand-to-hand, with Mike significantly more enthusiastic than Charlie, only for Dog to crash down on top of it. Taking its neck in his mouth, he slammed it into the ground, quickly killing it. As Annie declared the bird breakfast, Charlie realized she had used them as bait. The group roasted the Dodo Bird over a fire.
| |
Vine snake |
Skull Island episode 4 | In "Breakfast Fit for a Kong", a vine snake watched Charlie, Annie, Mike, and Dog travel through the forest. Later, eight of them ambushed a group of Irene's mercenaries who were trying to lure Annie and Dog into the open.
Giant Ant |
Skull Island episode 4 | In "Breakfast Fit for a Kong", Charlie fell down a long tunnel, finally coming to a stop in a chamber occupied by a long-dead Giant Ant, which partially crumbled at his touch. Mike and Annie eventually made contact with Charlie, but Dog was uninterested in rescuing him. Mike climbed down to retrieve Charlie first, followed by a bloodthirsty Annie after a living Giant Ant dragged its deceased counterpart into the shadows. An argument between her and Mike was cut short by the giant ant's approach. Charlie rushed in with an ancient sword he found in the chamber, but it shattered against the insect's exoskeleton. Annie then lied on the ground next to the confused ant and feigned helplessness, causing Dog to descend into the chamber and chase off the ant.

Unseen glowing sea monster |
Skull Island episode 4 | In "Breakfast Fit for a Kong", Cap flashed back to the glowing underwater creature he witnessed one night beneath his ship, which sparked his interest in searching for cryptids. He described it as "playful, like a dragon or an eel."
| |
Venus Fly Trap Creature |
Skull Island episode 4 | In "Breakfast Fit for a Kong", Cap, Irene, and Sam came upon a field of massive yellow flowers, one of which revealed itself to be a Venus Fly Trap Creature and snatched Irene up with its enormous jaws when her back was turned to it. Sam cut through the flower's stem with a machete, and he and Cap pulled Irene out of its mouth with great effort, breaking several tendrils holding her in place in the process. She and Sam laughed at the irony of a botanist almost being eaten by a flower, then were surprised to see Cap soothing the dying creature.
| |
Dog's father |
Skull Island episode 4 | In "Breakfast Fit for a Kong", Annie nonchalantly told Mike and Charlie that she and Dog met after their fathers killed each other. Dog's father appeared in two flashbacks in "Terms of Endearment". In the first, he used a claw to make and expand a hole in the hull of the beached ship that brought Annie and her father to her self-named island. In the second, Annie found his body on the beach after burying her father. Having heard sounds, she approached him warily with a plastic shovel, and discovered Dog, also in mourning. Frightened, she ran back to the ship.

Drawing a pocket knife, Cap prepared to defend himself, but before it could strike, a flare gun round suddenly lodged itself in its head. As it fled, he turned to find a still-sickly Mike, who blew smoke from the barrel before collapsing.

Rokmutul |
Godzilla (2014) |
Rokmutul is an armored six-legged kaiju with a streamlined crocodilian body, and spikes on its tail most closely resembling those of a Stegosaurus. Based on this concept art found in Godzilla: The Art of Destruction, the beast would have fought Godzilla in San Francisco, with one encounter showing them fighting in the heart of the city and the other atop Alcatraz. Its relation to the other unused monster designed by Josh Nizzi, Pterodactyl, is unknown. Rokmutul would end up being replaced with the female MUTO as one of Godzilla's opponents in the finished film.
Pterodactyl |
Godzilla (2014) |
Pterodactyl is a four-winged pterosaur-like kaiju featured in only one piece of concept art found in Godzilla: The Art of Destruction. While it is known that it would have also fought Godzilla alongside Rokmutul in early development, its relation with the other monster was not explained. In the finished film, the male MUTO would replace the monster, who has wings as well.
Strange, dead monster |
Godzilla (2014) |
A strange, dead monster[16] appears in the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con teaser trailer for the film. The creature possesses six visible legs, with a long, apparently segmented body with ridges on its back, somewhat resembling a tardigrade; its feet have four long fingers each. Its identity is unknown, but it was shown solely to confirm that Godzilla would be fighting another kaiju.
