Template:Kaiju Infobox Unmade Ghost Godzilla (ゴーストゴジラ,   Gōsuto Gojira) is an unused Template:Kaiju from the unmade 1995 Godzilla Template:GFilmC, Godzilla vs. Ghost Godzilla.

Overview

Ghost Godzilla was intended to be Godzilla's opponent in the final film of the Heisei series. Planning on tying the last planned Godzilla film for at least a decade in with the original 1954 film, Toho decided for Godzilla's opponent to be the reincarnation of the restless spirit of the first Godzilla. According to concept art of Ghost Godzilla commissioned by Shinji Nishikawa on December 27, 1994,[1] Ghost Godzilla would have possessed Little Godzilla, causing him to grow from the inside out into a form resembling the 1954 Godzilla. As a result of the sudden growth, Ghost Godzilla would have large cracks and tears in its skin. Ghost Godzilla also appears to have white eyes with no pupils. Ghost Godzilla was scrapped because director Takao Okawara reportedly felt that after Godzilla's previous two opponents, Mechagodzilla and SpaceGodzilla, being clones of him, having a third film pitting Godzilla against a clone of himself would have been "too much." Ghost Godzilla was replaced with Barubaroi, who was subsequently reworked into the monster Destoroyah.
